Adhai-din-ka-Jhonpra

Location

Adhai-din ka Jhonpra eventually represents religious vandalism of some Muslim Powers and it is constructed in the place of a Jain temple. Since the it took only two and a half days to finish the construction of the mosque, it became known as Adhai-din which literally means two and a half days. In the beginning the structure was a Sanskrit college, and later in 1198 Muhammad Ghori changed it into a mosque. A perfect blend of Hindu Muslim architecture, the seven-arched wall and the pillars of this pretty shrine makes special attraction.

Harshat Mata Temple

Location

Harshat Mata Temple, which dates back to the same period as Chand Baori (8th - 9th centuries AD) and lies just opposite it, is well worth a visit. Harshat Mata is the Goddess of Happiness and Joy and devotees believe that the Goddess is always cheerful and imparts her joy to them.

Harshat Mata Temple, an eighth century temple, is presently in a ruined state. The architecture and the motifs on the temple indicate its history going back to centuries. The original temple was dedicated to Lord Vishnu, but present sanctum is adorned by an image of four armed Harasiddhi, known as Harshat Mata, identified as Devi Parvati.

Thirunelly Temple

Location

The temple is situated 32 km northeast of Mananthavady and is protected by 30 granite columns. The floor has square tiles of granite too. The architecture of the temple, which faces the eastern direction, is worth examining and appreciating. An aquaduct, which was commissioned by a brahmin woman, successfully brings water to the temple from the holy Papnashini stream. The steps at the back of the temple actually leads to the stream and tank (Panchteerth).

Jain Temple

Location

A striking Jain temple, dedicated to Ananthanatha Swami represents one of the saints belonging to the Jain faith is situated just six kms from Kalpetta. This temple is in the wayanad district and is commonly known as Tippu’s fort. This is prominent as Tippu’s fort because Tippu used this place for storing ammunition. Hence, it gains the name sultans battery.

Sivagiri Mutt

Location

Sivagiri Mutt is a famous ashram in Varkala, founded by the philosopher and socialreformer Sree Narayana Guru.Sree Narayana Guru's tomb is also located here.The Samadhi (the final resting place) of the Guru here attracts thousands of devotees every year during the Sivagiri Pilgrimage days 30th December to 1st January.The Sivagiri Mutt, built in 1904, is situated at the top of the Sivagiri hill near Varkala.

Janardana Swami Temple

Location

Janardana Swami Temple is a very important Vaishnavite shrine attracts thousands of pilgrims.The temple is about 2000 years old. Facing the temple is the Papasnanam beachwhere devotees take a bath in the belief that the sacred waters willwash away their sins. A large bell washed up from the wreck of a Dutchmerchant vessel is kept on display at the temple.

Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple

Location

This temple has an idol 18 feet long. Sri Padmanabhaswamy temple is adorned with gold and precious stones. This temple always has thronging visitors and devotees. The idol of Lord Vishnu on the Serpent Anantha in a reclining posture is made of Kudusarkara blended with expensive things. This idol also includes herbs and Salagramam, which is usually not used in Kudusarkara idols. The detection of gold jewels on the idol developed great interest in the temple and made a significant record in the history.
