Lord Anjaneya temple

Location

Namakkal Anjaneyar temple has more than 1500 Years history . The fort of Namakkal is guarded by a giant Anjaneya. The idol is so famous that it has been known as Namakkal Hanuman.Anjaneya is in Digambara temple (with sky as the roof) facing and worshiping Lord Lakshmi Nrusimha and the Saleegramam. The Anjaneya in this kshethra is eighteen feet tall and is having dharshan of the Lord Lakshmi Nrusimha about 250 feet (76 m) away. The eye of Anjaneya is in straight line with the patha [lotus feet] of Lord Lakshmi Nrusimha.

Nagore Dargah

Location

Nagore Dargah is an important and revered pilgrimage place in Nagore. This Muslim shrine is dedicated to Meeran Sahib Abdul Qadir Shahul Hamid Badshah. This dargah attracts thousands of devotees all through the year. The structure of the Dargah is attractive with domed arches and lovely minarets. The largest tower has a height of 131 ft and is known as ‘Periya Minara’. There are five minarets and a water tank known as Peer Kulam. It is believed that the water in this tank has curative powers.

Velankanni

Location

Located just 14 kms away from the town of Nagapattinam, this beautiful village is a part of the Bay of Bengal coastline.

One of the most pilgrimage centers for Christians in India, the beautiful city of Velankanni is located just about 12 kms away from Nagapattinam. Declared by the Pope as a Holy City, the city is famous for a shrine dedicated to “our lady of sorrow” where the sorrowing Mother is depicted carrying infant Jesus in her hand.

Soundararaja Perumal Temple

The Soundaryaraja Perumal Temple is located in the heart of the Nagapattinam city. This temple attracted thousands of pilgrims due to the recently held Kumbabhishekam. The temple has a fascinating legend and a remarkable history. The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu in the form of Soundaryarajan, a synonym of love and beauty.

The main deity in this temple is referred as Naagai Azhagiyar in Thirumangai Azhwar’s "Periya Thirumozhi". The Lord’s body is marvelously gold colored with ornaments studded with emerald. The myth and the epic Brahmanda Puranam says the temple has been here for four yugas.

Sikkal Singaravelar Temple

Location

Sikkal Singaravelar Temple, also known as Sri Singaravelar Kaingarya Saba, is a popular temple in the tiny village Sikkal near to the temple town of Nagapattinam. This temple is run by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Board. The presiding deity in this temple is Singaravelar (Lord Muruga). Lord Navaneetheswarar (a form of Lord Shiva) with his consort Nedum Kanni Amman (Goddess Parvathi) are also installed in this temple.

Nellukadai Mariamman Temple

Nellukadai Mariamman Koil is one of the famous Mariamman temples in Tamil Nadu. It is believed that Mariamman appeared in the dream of a rice trader and asked him to build a shrine for him. He constructed a beautiful temple in Nagapattinam and started offering prayers. Later this temple became very popular and the devotees believe that the Goddess here has extra miraculous powers.

Kayarohanaswamy Temple

Kayarohanaswamy Temple in Nagapattinam is one of the seven temples of the Vidangar. This temple is popularly known as Neelayadakshi. The prime deity in this temple is Kayarohanaswamy, a form of Lord Shiva. The goddess here is Neelayadakshi, the one with blue eyes. The temple is considered as one of the Shakti Peethas. The Goddess idol is in the form of a pubescent girl.
