Connemara Library

Location

Connemara Library: Connemara Public Library at Chennai is one of the four ‘deposit libraries' in India which entitles them to a copy of every publication in India. The library began in 1861 as part of the Madras Museum and in 1896 Lord Connemara, the then Governor of Madras Presidency, opened it to the public. Henry Irwin, the renowned architect designed the building in the Pantheon complex in Chennai. The library stores a rapidly growing collection of over half a million books.

Norbulingka Institute

Location

The Norbulingka Institute, an educational and training institute to preserve and develop Tibetan arts and culture, is founded by the Buddhist Saint and the revered Tibetan leader Dalai Lama. The institute got its name from the official Lhasa residence of Dalai Lama.

The institute is located at a vast expanse of lush green land of about seven acres. The area is maintained as an eco-friendly location with many ponds, gardens and bridges. The buildings for library, temple, workshop, studio, college, guest house and all other facilities are constructed without cutting any of the trees in the area.

Sericulture Research Institute

Location

The Sericulture Research Institute in Kalimpong is a renowned center for the research studies in sericulture and is a place for breeding the silkworms. The center facilitates farmers to engage in sericulture. The institute provides all necessary help to the farmers by the way of transferring know-how and expertise skill training required for breeding silkworms and cultivating mulberry trees.
