Dagshai

Location

Dagshai developed into a well-established cantonment with a large jail, the foundation stone of which was laid in 1846. Here freedom fighters, mutineers and foreign law-breakers were interned and sentenced to rigorous imprisonment.

Diwan-i-Khas

Location

Diwan-i-Khas or the Audience Hall is built by Ram Shara Singh, one of the great patrons of arts among the Arki rulers. This astounding room of art is ornamented with wall friezes, encompassing the Kangra, Arki, Rajasthani Kullu and European styles of miniature paintings.

From Indian mythology to contemporary European cities, the subjects in these murals vary drastically. The flowery drawings and the figurines of females, and other portraits show strong influence of Guler style. Animals and birds, raginis, erotic scenes of love, war scenes and some amusing fantasies are found in the murals among other things.

Arki Palace

Location

A dazzling citadel on the backdrop of a wood side hill, Arki palace is quite famous for its lovely frescos of the Arki Kalam style. This gargantuan structure displays splendid architectural works that encompasses intricately designed roofs and motifs depicts various themes of contemporary importance. Though in ruins the murals and the wall paintings are worthy for a visit, which depicts various subjects from puranas to folklores. Arki Fort

Location

It is the sub-division headquarter and is situated at 39 km. from Shimla and 7 km. from Shalaghat on Shimla-Bilaspur road. It was the capital of Parmar Dynasty in ancient time. The King's palace is an example of the ancient art.

Once the capital of the princely state of Baghal, Arki has witnessed a good measure of turbulence in this area. Arki became the stronghold of an invading force of Gurkhas during the 'Gurkha Wars' that came to an end in 1815-16. About 1850, Raja Kishen Chand had the fort decorated with fine murals executed in the Pahari style. Here is a place packed with history and adomed with fine art.

Location

Kolkata and Durga Puja are inseparable. Rajbari Palace

Location

A reminiscence of the yesteryears, Rajbari Palace marks excellence in architecture and designing. The palace comprises of a large palace building, portico, bushy garden and two temples. The palace gate at Rajbari is assumed to be the world's largest un-reinforced concrete arch structure. The palace once served as the residence of the Raikats, the kings of Baikunthapur estate. The garden of the palace boasts of a beautiful pond, Rajbari Dighi. Surrounded by the pond is a lovely garden filled with flowers and shrubs, making it place a worth watching.
