Wasef Manzil

Location

This Palace was built by Sir Wasef Ali Mirza, Nawab of Murshidabad. This beautiful Palace was also the residence of Nawab Wasef Ali Mirza. This palace is very near to the Hazarduari Palace and is near the South Gate. The staircases made of marble and beautiful statues of this Palace are worth seeing. The entry fee is Rupee 1 (Indian currency) for Indian nationals.

Nizamatkila

Location

It is an Italian style palace of Nawab Mir Jafar, stands beside Bhagirathi river.

The Jain Parasnath Temple is at Kathgola. Another interesting palace is Wasif Manzil, with its unique collection of curios, paintings, arms and costumes. The Char Bangla Temple at Baranagore was built in the 18th century by Rani Bhavani.

Nasipur Palace

Location

The palace was built by King Kirtichand Bahadur in late 19th century. Within the palace compound are temples: the Ramachandra temple and the Lakshmi-Narayana temple. Closely situated is the Ashram of Mohandas and Jafraganj Deuri. The two cannons present here are said to be gifted to Mir Jafar by Clive.

Karnasubarna

Location

Karnasubarna was an ancient capital of King Gaureshwar Shashank and is also mentioned as the capital of Bengal in the travelogues of Chinese traveller Xuan Zhuang. The town is also associated with Lord Gautam Buddha, who stayed at Karnasubarna for seven days. A Buddhist Vihar was built in the front courtyard of the King's palace and Emperor Ashok also enshrined the Buddha's presence at Karnasubarna with an Ashok Stupa.

Jahan Kosha Cannon

Location

Jahan Kosha, a huge cannon, is about 1 km of Katra. It was built in the early 17th century by craftsman Janardan Karmakar of Dhaka. Kadam Sarif is a beautiful mosque near Jahan Kosha said to contain a replica of the footprint of Hazrat Mohammad, the prophet. The canon is 17.5 ft long and weighs 16,880 lb., with a girth of 5 feet at the touchhole end. The diameter of the touch hole is one and a half inches, and that of the orifice is 6 inches.

Raichak Fort

Location

Raichak Fort remains the centre of attraction here. But since it has been converted into a deluxe hotel, entry is only for the guests. The hotel treasures some memorabilia of the bygone era including a grand piano, a clock, swords and perfume bottles. Haldia, an important port city on the other bank of the river can be reached by boat. Diamond Harbour, 15 Km from Raichak is a popular tourist destination. A ruined Portuguese fort, a light house, Lord Buddha's statue are some of the attractions in Diamond.
