Location

The Kanakakunnu Palace is sited adjacent to the Napier Museum in Trivandrum. The Kanakakunnu Palace was built during the rule of the Travancore King. Shakthan Thampuran Palace

Sakthan Thampuram Palace, also called Vadakkechira Palace, was built in 1795 by Ramavarma Thampuram, of the erstwhile princely state of Cochin. The palace built in traditional Kerala and Dutch architectural style is a fusion with a new dimension.

Tellicherry Fort

This fort is located around 22 km from Kannur and is perched on a rocky hill on the Thalasseri beach itself. The fort was built in the year 1708 by Lord Wellesley and mainly served as military purposes. Standing on the fort rampart, you can enjoy a good view of the ruins of St Rosary Church and an old Angelican Church holding the cemetery of Edward Brennan. Tellicherry Fort is situated at a distance of nearly 22 km from Kannur. This fort was constructed in 1708 AD and was prominent as it was the martial centre of the British.

Randattara Cinnamon Estate

Location

Spices were of very great value in the medieval and ancient times and some of the prominent spices were the black pepper, turmeric, and ginger. Cinnamon grew in abundance in Kannur. Ancient Romans traded these items regularly using the Red sea as a trade route and these spices were in enormous demand. The climate was favorable and the trade flourished.

This brought the Portuguese to locate the sea route to reach India and they introduced the cashew tree which is popular today and is one of the major exports is the cashew nut.

Tipu's Fort

Location

Unlike the other forts of the country, The Palakkad Fort, also known by the name of Tipu's Fort was built to enhance communication between Palakkad and Coimbatore. The fort was originally constructed by Hyder Ali, Tipu's father, however it fell into the hands of British in 1784 and Zamorins in 1790. Today, the fort is under the protection and care of the ASI (Archaeological Survey of India). The fort is not only worth visiting because of its historical importance, rather it has a pleasant ambiance that encourages you to take a walk in the evenings.
