Tellicherry Fort

This fort is located around 22 km from Kannur and is perched on a rocky hill on the Thalasseri beach itself. The fort was built in the year 1708 by Lord Wellesley and mainly served as military purposes. Standing on the fort rampart, you can enjoy a good view of the ruins of St Rosary Church and an old Angelican Church holding the cemetery of Edward Brennan. Tellicherry Fort is situated at a distance of nearly 22 km from Kannur. This fort was constructed in 1708 AD and was prominent as it was the martial centre of the British.

This fort was built as a memorial to their colonial imperialism that the east India Company founded its hamlet on the Malabar Coast. The fort has massive walls, carved doors, and secret tunnels reaching the sea and was the hub of Thalassery’s progress and development. This fort had a hold on the Malabar Coast.
