Keoladeo National Park

Location

Formerly known as the Bharatpur National Park this Park plays host to the most amazing and unbelievable variety of feathered ambassadors across the globe (including Siberian crane) The Keoladeo itself is only 30 odd sq km. However the well-traversed treks can be covered on a hired rickshaws. The Rickshaw pullers are an amazing bunch of characters and are renowned for their knowledge on birds. It is also recommended to avail the boat trip in early morning or late evening along with a pair of binoculars.

Rajmachi Wildlife Sanctuary

Location

The Rajmachi Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the picturesque locale surrounded by dense green forests. The wildlife sanctuary is on the foothills and hilly terrains of Western Ghat in Sahyadri ranges. The sanctuary offers the wildlife beauty in its pristine passion. This is a weekend destination for the nature loving tourists.

Katraj Snake Park

Location

Katraj Snake Park is a rare location to get the close view of variety of reptile species. This Park, established in 1986, is situated close to Pune on Pune–Satara Highway at Katraj. The Park houses birds and turtles apart from the reptiles.

The park homes the rare species of Brown Palm Civet and is a major attraction. As per the wildlife records this is the only specimen of this kind in captivity. The King Cobra of length nine feet, which is brought from Sunderbans, is another attraction to the wildlife enthusiasts. A zoo and a garden located nearby are also worth visiting.

Tadoba National Park

Location

Tadoba National Park is the oldest National Park in Maharashtra and is located at the outskirts of Nagpur. It is declared in 1993 as a Project Tiger reserve. Tadoba village is known as the ‘the Jewel of Vidarbha’. The name Tadoba is derived from the local deity of the inhabitants Gond tribals.

Borivali National Park (Sanjay Gandhi National Park): Presently renowned as Sanjay Gandhi National Park, Borivali National Park is a unique wildlife park situated within the city limits of Mumbai. The Park was known as Krishnagiri Park during pre-independence period and later as Borivali National Park. In 1990 the park is renamed as Sanjay Gandhi National park. It has the reputation of being the most visited National Park and also being the World’s largest park within the city limits.

Phansad Bird Sanctuary

Location

The Phansad Wildlife Sanctuary is an astonishing exposure. Although Phansad is a bird sanctuary, it also houses a large collection of amphibians, insects and mammals. Spread across a vast area of 52.71 sq km, Phansad is quite a lonely place not visited by scores of people and the forest replicates this with its green panorama and diverse flora and fauna that will persuade one to languish.

A leisurely walk through this Sanctuary is a visual luxury of beautiful birds and butterflies, bizarre insects and the blush of flowers in blossom. The intense air of the Sanctuary, with the exhilarating smell of rich foliage and the mildewed odor of putrefying trees is really wonderful.

Karnala Bird Sanctuary

Location

Karnala Bird Sanctuary located at the bottom of the Karnala fort is literally a paradise for bird watchers. The bird sanctuary, established in 1968, is a natural habitat for more than 150 species of resident birds and about 37 species of birds migrating from other areas of the world. The bird lovers can spot various kinds of rare birds including spotted heart wood peckers and ashy minimet. Many species of birds like racket tailed drongo, paradise fly catcher, magpie robin, red vented bulbul, myna and owl are abundantly seen here.
