For all the nature lovers and those interested in wildlife, a visit to the Govind Vallabh Pant Zoo at Nainital does not result in disappointment. This is a high altitude zoo situated at 2100 meters in a vast open area, about one km away from the bus stand. This Nainital zoo is a home to a variety of animals, namely, Himalayan black bear, Monkeys, Siberian Tiger, Leopard, Wolf, Palm civet cat, Rose ringed Parakeet, Silver Pheasants, Hill Fox, Ghoral, Sambhar and Barking Deer.

Amidst the beauty of nature and the pine-clad hill slopes surrounded by the snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas, Benog Wildlife Sanctuary, situated amidst thick jungles, is a boon for the adventure enthusiasts.

From Jeolikot, one can also visit the small village of Pangot. A popular stop enroute is the Kilbury bird sanctuary which has amazing view of the snow clad peaks and is home to over 240 species of birds.

A treat for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers, Chilla Wildlife Sanctuary is located on the east bank of the Ganga River. Spread across an area of 249 sq km, the wildlife fauna includes elephants, tigers, bears and small cats. This area is mostly inhabited with elephants, apart from a variety of interesting birds.

The best time to visit this place is between November to June. Tours for visiting this wildlife sanctuary can be easily arranged. Those interested in a close encounter with the flora and fauna of nature must make it a point to visit the Chilla Wildlife sanctuary.

A mini zoological park placed at the base of the majestic Shivalik Range, Malsi Deer Park in Dehradun is one among the fast emerging tourist attractions in the hill station. Situated in the near vicinity of the city, this park also houses a children’s park bounded by verdant greenery. This would provide great fun to the children apart from seeing the wild animals in the Park.

It is situated 7km from Chopta on Chopta – Gopeshwar Road. Kanchula Korak Musk Deer Sanctuary is famous for breeding musk deer’s. This sanctuary is spread over an area of 5 square kilometres. It is an ideal place for tourists who loves animals and are looking for rare Himalayan wildlife.

You will have to move a little out of the city center as the sanctuary is situated some 47 km away from Tirunelveli. Covering a whopping area of around 223 sq km, the sanctuary is located amidst the western ghats. The sanctuary serves as home to animals like Macaque, common Langur, Nilgiri Tahrs, Sambars, Bears, Elephants, Tigers, Flying Squirrel, Panther, the list goes on. The flora here is also very rich and one can see spreads of tropical wet evergreen forest, tropical dry deciduous and thorn forest.

The zoo is home to many animals like elephants, tigers, monkeys etc.

Mukerti National Park is situated in the southern region of the Nilgiri and is spread across the whole eastern region too. The park is an abode for a large number of animals and they can breed freely and reside in the protected environment, which is deployed for wild life cultivation. Several measures have been taken by the government to protect this wild life so as to protect the species which are on the verge of extinction.

Mukerti lake is jointly established along with the park and birds and ducks which love to live in water are provided with an eco friendly environment so that they can live in a natural environment. Boating is encouraged in the lake and it's a wonderful time going boating in the lake beside the park.

Sanctuary Avalanche is situated in the Nilgiri hills and is a wild life sanctuary which was constructed with the holy intention to protect the wild life in southern India. Several species on the verge of extinction are reared with great care and caution and are provided with an eco friendly environment where they can breed easily and have life going on.
