Fisherfolk Temple

Location

The Fisherfolk temple is situated on the coastline that passes from Kannur to Thalassery and from Thalaserry to Mahe. The connection of these three makes a special and striking necklace of river as well as beaches. These pristine beaches are magnificent as each one is associated with a special ambience. These beaches are near the fisher folk temple.

English Church

Location

The English Church is one of the remarkable and significant oldest churches of the Kannur district. The English Church had excellent glass works manufactured in London. These stained glasses enhanced the beauty of the English church. The grave stones employed in the construction of the church sustained a poignant charm.

Vavar Shrine

Location

There is a shrine dedicated to Vavaru Swamy, a Muslim saint, in Sabarimala making it an ideal place of religious harmony. It is believed that Vavar was a notorious man in the Pandalam Kingdom. Lord Ayyappa defeated Vavar in a straight encounter. Vavar could realize the greatness of the Manikanta (Lord Ayyappa) and became his disciple.

Makaravilakku

Location

Makaravilakku is the most important devotional view in Sabarimala Ayyappa temple. On the Makaravilakku day (Januray 14) a Jewel Casket is brought from the Pandalam Palace and the Ayyappa Idol is adorned with these majestic jewels. It is seen that a Garuda, an auspicious bird hovers over the Jewel procession.

Ayyappa Temple

Location

Ayyappa temple is the prime attraction in Sabarimala. A temple dedicated to Malikapurathamma Devi is placed on the left side of the Ayyappa temple. It is believed that the temple layout had come from Lord Ayyappa himself. Lord Ayyappa known as Manikantan is believed to be son of Lord Shiva and Lord Krishna in Mohini form.

One has to climb 18 sacred steps to reach the sanctum Santorum. Each step symbolizes 18 feelings occur naturally in the human mind or these steps symbolizes the miseries of the life. It is believed that one reaches the temple premise leaving his human errors in these steps will get blessing from the Lord Ayyappa. The temple is a present day example of religious tolerance, equality, fraternity, and humanity.

Thiruvalathoor Shiva Temple

Location

The ancient temple here exhibits some fine woodwork and stone sculptures. This Shiva Temple is in southern part of Palakkad. The temple has conical roof and whitewashed walls replete with oil lamps. The woodwork and stone sculpture of the temple, it is said, were completed in a period of just one night. They are worth seeing. The main festival celebrated in the temple are Mahashivratri and Kartikpoornima. The temple is open from 6 am to 12 pm and then from 5 pm to 7.30 pm.

Manapullikaavu

Location

This is the second of the two most important Bhagvati devi temple in Palakkad believed to be 1200 years old. The idol here is swayambu (self created) and is found on one side of the Sreekovil. The main idol of the temple was installed at a much later date. The Vela Festival is the main festival of the temple. The temple is open between 6 to 10.30 am and 5 to 7 pm.
