Vavar Shrine

Location

There is a shrine dedicated to Vavaru Swamy, a Muslim saint, in Sabarimala making it an ideal place of religious harmony. It is believed that Vavar was a notorious man in the Pandalam Kingdom. Lord Ayyappa defeated Vavar in a straight encounter. Vavar could realize the greatness of the Manikanta (Lord Ayyappa) and became his disciple.

When Lord Ayyappa decided to climb the sabarimala mountains to adorn the temple, Vavar also accompanied him. Ayyappa gave him a shrine near to the Ayyappa temple. Muslim priests carry out pujas in this shrine. All devotees visiting the Ayyappa temple pay their devotion to Vavaruswamy as well.
