Skandashramam

Location

Skandashramam in Thiruvannamalai town is located on the north side of the Arunachala hill where the famous Arunachaleswara temple exists. This ashram is also near to the renowned Ramana Ashram. This is one of the caves where the saint Ramana spent his period of stay in Thiruvannamalai.

A long trek is required to reach the cave ashram. Skandashram hosts the disciples of Sri Ramana Maharishi all through the year. This Ashram witnesses huge flow of pilgrims from all over the world, all through the year. The Skandashram offers majestic panoramic views of the downhill.

Seshadri Swamigal Ashram

Location

Seshadri Swamigal Ashram is a sacred spot in the Thiruvannamalai town. This is located close to the famous Ramana Ashram. Mahan Sri Seshadri Swamigal was a 20th century saint who had displayed majestic powers. The devotees believe that he had carried out many miracles and has the power to bless the devotees who offer worship at this ashram.

Devotees from all over the globe visit this sacred Ashram. There is a beautiful garden in the premise of this garden. It is a perfect place to do meditation and religious rituals. The ashram offers accommodation facilities to the visitors.

Mamara Guhai

Location

Mamara Guhai, literally means mango tree (mamara) cave (guhai), is a religious cave temple in the hilly terrain of Thiruvannamalai. This ancient temple is ideally located in the majestic foothills of Thiruvannamalai nestled among the breathtaking natural views and is the cave where the mystic saint Sri Ramana Maharishi carried out penances and meditation for six years.

Arunachaleswara Temple

Location

Arunachaleswara temple, located on Arunachala hills, in Thiruvannamalai is one of the most scared Shiva temples in India. The temple is dedicated to the form of Lord Shiva known as Arunachaleswarar. It is one of the five Panchabhoota (five elements wind, water, fire, earth and space) Stalams. This temple is for fire. The other four temples are in Kalahasti (wind), Tiruvanaikka (water), Kanchipuram (Earth) and Chidambaram (Space).

Sri Subrahmanyaswamy Temple

Location

Sri Subrahmanyaswamy Temple in Thiruthani, popular as Thiruthani Murugan temple, is a famous Hindu religious destination in Tamil Nadu. It is one of the six famous Muruga temples known as Arupadaiveedu, the six abodes of Lord Muruga or the six battle places where Lord Muruga won over the evils. The other five holy abodes are Palani Dandayudhapani Swamy Temple, Tiruparamkundram Subramanya Swami Temple, Tiruchendur Senthil Andavar Temple, Palamudhircholai Subramanya Swamy Temple and Swamimalai Swaminatha Swami Temple

Panchaloha Utsavar

Location

The temple procession in Thirumanancheri is very attractive with the idols of Panchloha (alloy of five metals) utsavar. A large number of devotees from nearby places attend the processions. Chanting of Vedas and other religious fervor accompany the idol processions.

The panchaloha utsavar idols of the Lord and other Gods were taken around the temple with the vedic recitations. Utsavar idols of Ambujavalli samedha Srinivasa Perumal was accompanied by his concerts Andal, Rukmani, Chakkarathazhwar and Sathyabama every day.

Thevaram Shrine

Location

Thevaram Shrine in Thirumanancheri is popular among the locals and the devotees from the nearby village. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The prime feature and attraction of this old temple is that sacred Thevaram Hymns are recited everyday in this temple.

The temple promotes ancient Hindu rituals and art forms. The thevaram hymns are sung devotionally while worshipping Lord Shiva. It is believed that hearing thevaram hymns relieve the devotees from life miseries. Thevaram shrine is one of the few temples in South India where Thevaram is recited.

Goddess Abhirami Shrine

Location

Goddess Abhirami Shrine in Thirukkadaiyur witnesses unusual scenes of wedding of couples with men crossing 60 years of age. It is believed that this unusual ritual offers long married life for the couples and also provides all best living conditions and prosperity in future.

There are many legendary stories behind this temple and the unusual custom of old age second marriage. Abirami Battar, a devotee of Abhirami the Consort of Amritaghateswarar, spent hours in meditation at this palace. He lived during the period of King Serfoji. King was suspicious about the divine power of Battar. But King later understood the divine power of the great saint.
