Vijay Mandir Palace

Location

Situated 10-km away from the city this palace is a splendid palace, built by Maharaja Jai Singh in 1918 AD. A picturesque lake overlooking Vijay Mandir Palace makes it a fascinating sight. A fabulous Sita Ram Temple in Vijay Mandir Palace attracts number of devotees, especially during Ramnavami. While the ground floor have been converted into govt. offices and district courts, upper apartment is presently a museum. One needs prior permission form the Secretary to visit Vijay Mandir Palace.

Ranthambhore Fort

Located atop of a hill, the Rathambhore fort holds a bloody but brave history of the legendary Rajputs. Constructed in 994 AD, this fort encompasses massive gate, lofty walls, tanks and temples. Its strategic location and finest structural designs with safety measures makes it an impregnable one. This mighty fortress of the Rajputs holds an amazing legend that says that the fort was constructed as a token of gratitude to Lord Shiva. However, Rathambore fort is famed as the first ever place where the women practiced Juhar in order to protect themselves from the intruding army of the Persians.

Vinay Vilas Mahal

Location

This 18th century palace used to be the residence of the rulers of the state of Alwar. A portion of this palace is now being used by the government, while another has been converted into a museum. The palace is a fine blend of Rajasthani and Mughul architecture. Among the things worth seeing here are the gold and velvet throne in the Durbar Hall, the murals, mirror decoration, and the collection of weapons in the museum. The miniature paintings of the Alwar School are among the other interesting exhibits. The palace is also called the city palace.

Neemrana Fort

Location

Built in 1464, Neemrana fort is the main attraction at Neemrana. Located on an elevated plateau at an altitude of about 1200 meters in the Aravalli Range, it presents a majestically impressive appearance to visitors as they approach the town. Most of the chambers are cut into the rugged, horse shoe shaped rock surface, and are nine stories high. This well preserved structure has been declared as a heritage site and is now a palace resort.

Bala Quila (Fort)

Location

Situated above the city palace, this medieval fort towers above the city, on a hillock. There are many legends associated with this fort. It is a massive structure and has a large number of towers. The fort is said to have sheltered many Mughul princes during their journeys or exiles. The dimensions of the fort speak volumes about its utility in those days. The fort measures 5 kilometers from North to South, and 2 kilometers from East to West.

Much of Alwar’s character is intermingled with the history of the gigantic fort Bala Quila, which is erected on a 300m steep peak. Though this fort did not give any ample evidence about the ruler who constructed this fortress, it reveals its close association with the mighty Mugals.

Achitragarh Fort

Location

The fort that was built during the fourth century has three gates, Sireh Pol (the outermost gate), Beech Ka Pol (a middle gate as per its name) and Kacheri Pol (known because the judiciary was housed here in earlier times). Inside the fort, palaces built during the rules of various ruler are worth seeing. Prominent among these are Hadi Rani Mahal, Deepak Mahal, Bhakt Singh Palace, Amar Singh Mahal, Akbari Mahal and Rani Mahal. There are also two temples, the Krishna Mandir and the Ganesh Mandir and a Shah Jahani mosque within the fort complex.

Khimsar Fort

Location

Built by Thakur Karam Singhji in the16th century, the Khimsar Fort is the star attraction of Nagaur district. Though the fort has been converted into a heritage hotel and offers all modern facilities, yet its original charm as a symbol of royal past can unmistakably be caught from outside itself. Ghanerao

Location

Ghanerao is the place where Thakur Sajjan Singhji and his gracious wife have recreated a charming old-world ambience by opening this castle constructed in 1603 to paying guests. The genuine warmth of his greeting as he strode across the courtyard towards us, the bright wall frescoes, hunting trophies, turbaned retainers, peeing maids, carved jharokhas, drawing rooms full of colored windows and chandeliers, Rajput miniatures, ostrich eggs hand printed by the owner in Mayo College, all those old photographs.

Haldighati

Location

Haldighati was the venue of the famous battle fought between Rana Pratap (son of Udai Singh) and the Mughal Emperor Akbar in 1576 AD. Haldighati has a chhatri (cenotaph) of Rana Pratap with white marble columns. Also present, is a small chatri dedicated to Rana Pratap's famous horse Chetak.
