Nartiang Durga Temple

Location

Nartiang also boasts of an ancient temple named Nartiang Durga Temple which is a Shakti Peeth. It was built in the 16th century by a Jaintia king who was greatly influenced by Hinduism. The priests at the temple claim to be the 28th generation of their ancestors. The temple is located on the top of a hill overlooking the river Myndu. The ritual of human sacrifice was prevalent in the temple till the 19th century. The 'Boli Garbha' is the sacrificial place in the basement of the temple. Earlier, this place was connected to the river Myndu through a steep tunnel.

Shri Govindjee Temple

Location

This temple adjacent to the palace of the former rulers of Manipur, is a sacred center for Vaisnavites. It is a simple and beautiful structure with twin gold domes, a paved courtyard and a large congregation hall. The presiding deity, Radha Govinda is flanked by idols of Balaram and Krishna on one and Jaganath, Balabhadra and Subhadra on the other

This place was considered to be the highest place for any cultural activity during the times of the Maharajas. Located at a place near the Royal palace of past Maharajas, it has two domes and a raise congregation hall to keep the sacred deities in their place, aloof and high.

Bishnu Temple

The conical roofed shrine is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Built in 1467, during the reign of King Kiyamba, the temple is interesting for its antiquity and Chinese design. Bishnupur is also renown for its stone production. This temple with a conical roof was built in the year 1467. The temple is constructed in accordance with Chinese tradition and design.

Catholic Church

Location

The attempt to spread Christianity by the Catholic Church began in 1948, when the Sisters of the Missionaries of Christ Jesus, arrived in Kohima to offer services at newly established hospital of Kohima. The Catholic Church produced tangible results and has witnessed the creation of separate Diocese for the States of Nagaland and Manipur.

The Catholic Church located on the Aradhurah Hill, near the Little Flower School is probably the biggest church of its kind in the pre-dominantly Christian north-eastern region of India. The church presents a refreshingly modern blend of indigenous and creative architecture. The church itself is located on the hill and provides a magnificent view of the town.

Hanamkonda

Location

The capital of Kakatiya rulers before they moved to Warangal is just 3 kms away from the city. A magnificent Thousand-pillard temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, was erected here by the first Kakatiya King Rudradeva in 1163 AD. The temple is notable for its richly carved pillars, preformatted screens and exquisite icons, especially impressive are the rock cut elephants and the Nandi.

Sri Veeranarayana Temple

Location

Sri Veeranarayana Temple, an ancient temple built around 1104 AD, is a highly revered temple located at Kolanupaka in Warangal District. The shrine encloses Shri Veeranarayana, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu as the main deity. The temple architecture is superb and it resembles the Chalukya style of architecture. This is an important Vaishnava temple in Warangal. It is claimed that this was an ancient Jain temple later converted to a Hindu temple. The intricate carvings on the walls of the temple are amazing and worth seeing. The temple itself is located in a serene environment.

Siddeshwara Temple

Location

Siddheshwara Temple, an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, is located very close to Hanamkonda in Warangal. The temple architecture is marvelous and is similar to Chalukyan style of architecture. The temple as whole is decorated amazingly with intricately carved pillars. This is an important shivaite temple in Warangal. Devotees throng to this holy temple during the Maha Shivarathry festival. The temple has a majestic look and the surroundings are serene and secluded. The temple offers great peace of mind to its devotees.

Rayaparthy Shiva Temple

Location

Rayaparthy Shiva temple, assumed to be built in 18th century, is located in a nearby village in Warangal. This temple is a specimen of 18th century architectural style and carvings and inscriptions on the walls of the temple are superb. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, the main temple is surrounded by small shrines. The temple surrounding is picturesque and natural pristine beauty makes the place attractive.
