Baroda Museum and Picture Gallery

Location

Located at Sayajibaug, Baroda Museum with an impressive collections of art and archeology, natural history, geology and ethnology was founded by Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad in 1887. Designed by the English architectures R.F. Chisholm and Major R.N. Ment on the lines of Victoria and Albert and Science museums of London, the museum building which was constructed in 1894 is a fine example of Indo-Sarcenic style of architecture. The art gallery was later introduced in 1914, but it was opened during 1921 due to the delay in transporting the collection of European paintings to Baroda because of World War. The museum and the picture gallery, having an area of 40,000 sq. ft each, are located in two separate two-storied building that are connected by a covered bridge passage.

Sardar Patel Museum

Location

Formerly known as Winchester Museum, Sardar Patel Museum is a multi faceted museum located in Sonifalia. Established in 1st February 1890, the museum has a collection of over 80,000 specimens of arts and crafts. The exhibits includes traditional textiles, oil paintings, stuffed specimens of animal and birds, miniatures, old manuscripts, sandal wood and artifacts made of wood, metal, stone, ivory, terracotta, porcelain, etc. All the specimens are classified in various section and are exhibited in different galleries.

Saputara Museum

Location

Saputara Museum, a small museum located at the heart of the cit near the main market in Saputara city, displays the various lifestyles and culture of the tribal populace. Museum provides spectacular exhibition of variety of clothes, utensils, traditional artifacts, lifestyles, house objects, musical instruments, ornaments, and many such objects which are used by the native tribal Dangis. A workshop is also associated with the museum; one can observe the ways in which traditional objects are made. This is a nice museum giving lots of information about Dang tribal in Saputara.

Kachchh Museum

Location

The Kachchh Museum in Bhuj, India, is one of the famous Tourist Attractions in Bhuj. Built during the period of British Rule in India, the Museum of Kachchh in Bhuj is the most significant among all other Museums in Bhuj as it displays the articles that take the visitors to those ages to which they belonged.

The Kutch Museum was established in the year 1877 by the British Governor of Mumbai known as Sir James Fergusson. It was because of the name of its founder that Kachchh Museum, Bhuj was initially named as Fergusson Museum.

Folk Museum

One of the chief attractions of Folk Museum, Bhuj which you will hardly find in any of the other Museums in Bhuj, is a rare fossil of a Crocodilian which is which is an extinct species of the crocodile of the modern age. This creature was double the size of a crocodile of today measuring as much as 9 meters as compared to the modern species which measures only 3 to 4 meters in length.

Gandhi Memorial

Location

Gandhi Memorial is also known as Gandhi Smriti Museum. The museum has a collection of some rare photographs and memorabilia associated with Mahatma Gandhi.

This memorial comprises a library with 40,000 volumes on Gandhian thought and social sciences, a Gandhi picture gallery and museum and a khadi and village industries emporium.

Burton Library and Museum

Location

One of the oldest institutions in the region, the library has a rich collection of more than 41,000 books, including some old Sanskrit manuscripts. It also has a vast collection of rare coins, artifacts, arms and armour used by former Bhavnagar rulers. Barton Library is one of the oldest libraries in Gujarat. It is located in the center of Bhavnagar. There is also a museum in the building. which is a worth visiting spot in the city.
