Hawai

Location

Hawai is the headquarters of the Anjaw District and is situated on the left side of the Lohit River. Located at a height of around 1,296 m above the sea level, it can easily be reached from Hayuliang. The major attraction of Hawai is a Cable Suspension Bridge, also known as Anjaw Bridge, constructed over the Lohit River. According to the Kaman Mishmi dialect, Hawai means a pond.

Hayuliang

Location

Hayuliang is a city located in Anjaw in Arunachal Pradesh. The name of the destination means ‘the place of my liquor' and is currently a sub-divisional headquarter. Situated at an elevation of around 750 m, Hayuliang offers a beautiful view of the confluence of Lohit River and Dalai River. Also, tourists can visit nearby places like Namdapha, Roing and Dibru-Saikhowa.

Subansiri River

Location

Subansiri River, a tributary of the River Brahmaputra, has a drainage basin of about 32,640 sq km. Known to be the largest tributary of the River Brahmaputra, it is around 442 km long. Subansiri River is also known as the Gold River and is popular for its gold dust.

The Subansiri River originates from the Himalayas in China and flows towards the east and southeast into India, where it joins the River Brahmaputra. Moreover, this river also offers opportunity to enjoy rafting and angling.

Gorichen Peak

Location

Gorichen Peak, highest peak of Arunachal Pradesh, is located between Tawang and West Kameng districts. Bordering with China, this peak has a height of 22,500 feet. Located at a distance of 164 kilometre from Tawang Township, this peak is also known as Sa-Nga Phu, which literally means the Kingdom of Deity. According to Monpa tribe, this peak is considered to be one of the sacred peaks protecting them from all the evils.

BongBong Waterfall

Location

BongBong Waterfall, also known as Nuranang Waterfall is located at a distance of 2 km from Jang, which is the administrative circle headquarter of Tawang district. 40 km from Tawang, the waterfall offers beautiful view of milky water falling from height of approximately 100 m. A visit to this waterfall is included in the itinerary of tourists travelling to Arunachal Pradesh.

Banga Jang Lake

Location

Banga Jang Lake, situated in the Banga Jang range, is one of the most famous lakes located in close proximity to Tawang Township. Every year pilgrims from across the globe visit the lake to acquire heavenly bliss and sanctity.

In addition to this lake, there are several other lakes located in Banga Jang range. According to the belief, many pilgrims visiting this lake had an experience of witnessing deities in the lake in several images.

Shonga-tser Lake

Location

Shonga-tser Lake is located at a distance of 42 kilometre from Tawang. This lake after the shooting of movie Koyla was named by tourists as Madhuri Lake. Shonga-tser Lake was formed in the aftermath of the earthquake, which occurred in 1950.

Before 1950, the entire lake area was reserved grassland. This grassland was used by the local people of Tawang district for grazing their cattle. This fact is supported by the presence of dead trees emerging from the middle of the lake. The scenery and the land of this lake entice photographers from all across the world.
