Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary

Location

Sangam is a spot 3 km away from Srirangapatna where the other branch of the river Cauvery - Loakpavani is reunited in jubilant enthusiasm. The Sangam is otherwise known as the confluence of rivers. It is located near a temple. A dip in the Sangam is considered to be holy. There is a common belief among people that their sins can be washed away by this holy dip.

This is an admired picnic spot and is a exquisite place. From here the river Cauvery flows into the Mettur Dam in Tamil Nadu.

Location

Guindy Snake Park is next to the Guindy National ParkSnake Park is located on Sardar Patel road in Guindy near Chennai. This is one of the eco friendly and environment friendly biological parks that attract many tourists. It houses a variety of rare reptiles, different species, including deadly king cobras, vipers, pythons, adders, kraits, adders, giant turtles and monitor lizards. There is a Children's Park nearby, which is well maintained, with varied collections of animals and birds. The park is open for all age groups.

Guindy National Park, adjacent to the Raj Bhavan, is situated in the Mambalam, Guindy taluk in Chennai. Guindy National Park, The smallest national park in India and one of the few located in a metro. The park is an extension of the grounds surrounding the official residence of the governors of Tamil Nadu.

Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, Muthunga

Location

The Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary is located at a distance of 18 km east of Sultan Bathery in the rainforest of Muthunga. The sanctuary forms an integral part of the Nilgiri Bio Sphere Reserve. Animals that can be seen in this sanctuary include Tigers (though there number is slightly less), Elephant, Jungle Cats, Panthers, Civet Cat, Monkeys, Wild dogs, Deers, Spotted Bears, Bisons, Gaurs, Cheetah, Wild Bears, Peacock, Owls, Jungle fowls, Woodpeckers, Babblers, Cukoos. Off late, the shrinking of waterholes in the the sanctuary is posing a great problem for the forest department.

Begur Wildlife Sanctuary

Location

Begur Wildlife Sanctuary is located at Mananthavady which is 20 km from wayanad. This is adjacent to the Western Ghats. Begur National Park is the best places of visit in Wayanad as it gives an absolute pleasure amidst the green lush. Mostly all the existing trees possess exceptional medicinal values.

The Wildlife Sanctuary has animals such as deer, tigers, elephants, leopards, boars, etc. Varieties of birds are also of great attraction to the visitors.

The appropriate season to visit is during December to May.

Zoological Park

Location

This is the first zoological park in India. It is situated in the centre of a perfect botanical garden. The animals are kept in natural habitat surroundings. Rare animals include the Nilgiri Tahr, the Asian Lion, the Bengal tiger, etc. The zoo has a good snake park housing varieties of snakes. The snakes are also given the feeling of a natural habitat. The botanical garden has huge trees such as jacaranda and frangipani.

Peechi Dama and Vazhani Wildlife Sanctuary

Location

Peechi Dama is a scenic delight on the Manali river, about 23 kms from Thrissur. The dam is built amidst hills and dense emerald greenery. The dam has vast catchments areas, botanical gardens. One can use the private boat services to explore the dazzling blue waters, the dense forest and spot wildlife among them.

The Vazhani Sanctuary is adjoining the dam among the green forest, near the catchment areas and a home to tigers, elephants, types of deers, medicinal plants and exotic varieties of orchids.

Location

Pakshipathalam is 7 km towards the north-east of Thirunelli Temple, in the Wayanad district in Kerala. Pakshipathalam is snuggled nearly 1740m above the sea level and a heaven for passionate bird lovers. With moist deciduous forests traveling to Pakshipathalam is a venture. Steep hills, streamlets and trekking make this place an ideal picnic spot.

Periyar Tiger Trail

Location

The Periyar Tiger Trail is a unique program launched by the forest department to provide a unique opportunity for visitors to explore the wildlife deep into the forest. This program is conducted by the erstwhile poachers who are reformed themselves as saviors of forests. These people possess exceptional knowledge about the terrain and wildlife.

The team comprises of 5 tourists, 5 guides and 2 forest department officials. There are two types of programs offered, such as 1 night and 2 days or 2 nights and 3 days covering a distance of around 35 km. Team members trek along the forest during the day time and stay inside the tents at nights.
