Buddha Temple

Location

The magical effect of Buddha is visible on every aspect of Itanagar and Arunachal Pradesh. Buddha temple, consecrated by the Dalai Lama, in Buddha Vihar located within the serene atmosphere amongst the imposing hills stands tall. The place is a typical Buddha shrine with a massive yellow/ golden roof. The temple stands in stark contrast to the Green carpets of nicely trimmed grass lawns. The shrine houses a Buddha idol and other Buddhist articles of worship.

Bomdila Monastry

Location

Bomdila Monastry is one of the most famous monasteries in Arunachal Pradesh, North East India. It is an abode of Buddhist Lamas and monks whose foundation was laid in 1965. It was built by the 12th reincarnate of Tsong Gontse Rinpoche. This monastery belongs to Mahayana Buddhism. It is also known as the Gentse Gaden Rabgyel Lling monastery. It is a replica of the Tsona Gontse monastery at Tsona in Tibet. A prayer hall was later added to the monastery by the 13th reincarnate of Tsona Gontse Rinpoche. This hall was later sanctified by His Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama in October 1997.

Sacred Kund

Location

The sacred Kund in Akashiganga is the chief attraction of the place. There is also a temple nearby. 100 meters down this path, one can observe a glowing object in the Kund. But as you move closer to it, the object is no more visible. Hordes of pilgrims come to this place to take a holy dip in the Kund so as to wash off their sins.

Tripura Sundri Temple

Tripura Sundri temple or Mata Tripurs Sundri (Maa Kali) temple is located at 3km towards south from Udaipur town. This temple is considered one of the 51 Shaktipithas and was constructed by Maharaja Dhanya Manikya in 1501 on a Hill rock. Thousands of devotees, pilgrims and tourist visits here on the occasion of Diwali every year. This temple is known as Matabari is also attended daily by thousands of devotees. In the back side of the temple there is a big lake called Kalyan sagar.
It is also known as Matabari temple and is raised on the Dhanisagar hillock. The priests of the temple dress in red clothes. Its square sanctum resembles a typical Bengali hut with a conical dome. It was built by Maharaja Dhanya Manikya Debbarma in the 16th century.

Bhubaneshwari Temple

Location

The Bhubeneshwari temple is ancient and holy place visited by all cast of people. Near to this temple the Gunabati group of temples, The Durga temple, Mahadev temple and other several famous temples are located. It is almost visited by all castes of people, visitors and trough out the year thousands of devotes attends here daily for Darshans.

Venuban Vihar

Location

At a distance of around 2 Km from the city of Agartala is located the Venuban Vihar where a Buddha shrine houses a metal idol of Lord Buddha. The idol was originally created in Burma and was later transferred to Venuban Vihar for installation into this shrine. It is a monastery built by Magdha King Bimbisar for Buddha. Buddha lived here for some time. Now it has been converted into a Deer Park and a Zoo. Magadha King Bimbisar had built Venuban Vihar or monastery at his pleasure-garden for Buddha to live in. This was the first gift of the king as obeisance to his preceptor.

Ummaneshwar Temple

Location

The Ujjayanta Palace milieu houses various temples revered by the populace. The temples of Jagganath and Ummaneshwar are located opposite to each other on the green stretches of grass within the Palace yard. Culturally and geographically Tripura identifies itself more with West Bengal, than the other North East states. Thus it is common to find Gods, Goddess and temples resembling each other in these two states.
