Dwarkadheesh Temple

Location

The temple of Dwarkadheesh, also known as Jagat Mandir, is built on the north bank of the Gomti Creek. The temple dates back to 2,500 years. Architecturally the temple is constructed on the same plan and system as most of the Hindu sacred edifices of antiquity. Sixty columns support the roof of the audience hall of the Jagat Mandir. The main temple is five-story high with the lavishly carved conical spire rising to a height of 157 feet. There is the one-meter tall, four handed black idol of Ranchhodrai, the ruler of Dwarika. Amongst the large number of temples belonging to different periods in the history of Dwarka, the most popular with pilgrims is the temple of Rukmini, Lord Krishna's wife, who is considered an incarnation of Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and beauty.

Kevda Masjid

Location

The Kevda Masjid, located down a quiet dirt road, has a very peaceful quality about it. Although the central dome on the Kevda Masjid has collapsed, the rest of this structure remains in good condition. Like the other mosques, it has two large minarets flanking the entranceway.

Jami Masjid

Location

Jami Masjid is the central masjid in Champaner, which consists of two tall minarets. Each minaret is around 30 m high, flanking the main entrance. It was built in 1523 and has carved balconies and entrance gates.

There are two floors of open arcades, having jaali around the pillared courtyard and detailed carvings. This mosque is a perfect example of the Sultanate style of architecture of Gujarat. There are around 172 pillars, 7 mehrabs and a central dome that are a unique fusion of Jain and Islamic traditions.

The masjid can be reached by a walk from the city centre.

Swaminarayan Temple

Location

The Swaminarayan Temple, Bhuj is famous all over the world as one of the most spiritually highlighted temple in Bhuj. The Swaminarayan Temple was set by the BAPS, Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha as it is known. BAPS is an organization which operates by the philosophies of Swaminarayan. BAPS as an organization was established in the year 1907 by Shastriji Maharaj.

The Swaminarayan Temple, Bhuj operates in the same way as all other temples which belong to the same organization. The Swaminarayan Temple of Bhuj is recognized for spiritual value, social work and the humanitarian service that they offer to the world. As all other temples that operate under BAPS, Swaminarayan Temple in Bhuj is also known for the beautifully carved stone temples.
