Modan Mohan temple

Location

Situated in the heart of the Kochbihar town, the popular temple was constructed by Maharaja Nripendra Narayan during 1885 to 1889. The deities include Lord Madan Mohan, Ma Kali, Ma Tara and Ma Bhavani. On the occasion of Raas Puja the traditional Raas Jatra Festival along with Rass Mela is held in Kochbihar which is among the biggest festivals of North Bengal. Further north of the Shyama Raya Temple is the beautiful form of the Madan Mohan Temple (constructed around 1694).

Yogi Shiva Temple

Location

Yogi Shiva Temple is a revered Shiva temple located to the north of the house of Sri Ramakrishna. It is believed that Ramakrishna’s mother had a divine vision in front of this temple. The legends say that while talking to Dhani, a blacksmith girl who looked after Gadadhar in his childhood, mother saw a celestial light emerged out from an image of Shiva. It filled this temple and entered swiftly to her body. It is also believed that she conceived Sri Ramkrishna due to these lights from Shiva.

Raghuvira Temple

Location

The temple of Raghuvira is a new construction at the place of a small hut like temple in Kamarpukur. This temple originally was a small hut with floor and walls made out of mud and the roof with straw. The temple is dedicated to Lord Rama (Raghuvira). A salagrama of Raghuvira adorns the temple. There is an earthen jar believed to be Goddess Sita and a Rameshwara Sivalinga. A salagrama of Narayana (Lord Vishnu) and an image of Gopala are also worshipped here.

The temple attracts many pilgrims visiting the Asram of Sri Ramakrishna. It is a very much revered temple by the locals.

Haldapukur Tank

Location

Haldapukur tank is a re-excavated tank located on the northern region of the Yogis' Siva temple in Kamarpukur. The tank water is clean and potable. There are two bathing spots in this old tank. This tank is closely knitted to the boyhood days of Sri Ramkrishna. During this period the tank water was used for bathing, cooking purposes and drinking.

Gopeshwar Temple

Location

Gopeshwar temple is an ancient temple located to the east of the holy home of Sri Ramakrishna in Kamarpukur. The prime deity of this temple is Shiva. This big Sivalinga is founded by Sukhlal Goswami or his forefather Gopilal Goswami, who were ardent devotees of Shiva.

It is believed that Sri Ramakrishna’s mother prayed to Lord Shiva at this temple for getting cure for her son from ecstatic moods like madness. She practiced many penances to get divine grace. It is a highly revered temple in Kamarpukur where thousands of Shiva devotees visit every year.
