Ucchi Pillaiyar Temple

Location

Ucchi Pillaiyar temple is one of the three temples in the Rockfort Temple near the Chattram bus stand. Rockfort temple is known as Dakshina kailasam and is located on the banks of the river Cauvery on a hill-top.

The temple complex consists of three temples known as Manikka Vinayagar temple located at the foot of the hill, Thayumanavar Temple in midway to the hill and Ucchi pilliayar (Vinayagar) Temple placed at the peak (ucchi).

Venkatachalapathy Swamy Temple

Location

Venkatachalapathy Swamy Temple is one of the famous Vaishnava temples in Tamil Nadu. The temple is located in the neighborhood of Kumbakonam, just 5 km from the heart of the city. The prime deity is known by different names such as Venkatachalapathy, Oppiliappan, Uppiliappan and Thiruvinnagarappan. The presiding deity is in standing posture facing east with his consort Bhoomidevi. In this temple no salt is used for any preparation of Nivedyams.

Bhagavatha Padithurai Ghat

Location

Bhagavath Padithurai in Kumbakonam is one of the bathing ghats in Cauvery (Kavery) River. During the Kumbakonam Mahamaham festival, thousands of Hindu pilgrims take holy dip at this Ghat.

Kavery river has special significance in Hindu religious rituals and practices. Bhagavath Padithurai Ghat is at the heart of the temple town of Kumbakonam and hence is the most important bathing Ghat in Kumbakonam. It is believed that a bath in this ghat washes away all the sins of the person and makes his body and mind pure.

Kurinji Temple

Location

Kurinji Andavar Temple is dedicated to Lord Muruga who is considered to be the God of the Hills as per Tamil literature. In Tamil, Kurinji means "hilly region" and the word Andavar refers to "God".

This temple is located at about 5 km from the bus station and the summer festival that is most anticipated event by the locals is celebrated in the month of May every year. Thousands of devotees visit this temple during the summer festival to seek the blessings of Lord Muruga.

One can get a good view of Vaigai dam and Palani hills from the hill on which the temple is located.
