Location
The Someswarar Temple, also known as Pazhaiyarai Vadathali, is located at Pazhaiyarai in the neighborhood of Kumbakonam. It is just few minutes drive from the Patteeswaram temple. The temple is in the backdrop of an enthralling village.
The temple is established during the Chola period. This is the birthplace of saint Mangayarkarasiyar, one of the famous nayanmars. The idols in this temple are marvelously carved. The prime deity in this temple is Someswara, one of the forms of Lord Shiva. Shrines for other Gods and Goddesses including Durga are also placed in the temple premise. The temple is visited by thousands of devotees every year.
