Archaeological Museum

Location

The present archeological museum is the Tripunithura Hill Palace, which was once the administrative head quarters of Kochi Kings. It is famed as the largest archaeological museum in Kerala.

The hill palace was established in 1865, placed in a vast expanse of 54 acres and is comprising of 49 buildings built in traditional Kerala architectural style. Hill palace encloses a heritage museum, a deer park, children’s park and a pre-historic park, apart from the archeological museum. Archeological museum displays many valuable archeological items belong to erstwhile Kochin Kingdom.

Pazhassiraja Museum

Pazhassiraja Museum is located in the East Hill, which is in Calicut, India. Pazhassiraja Museum is a very definite place that must be seen as it contains many archeological and historical artifacts that are significant to the region. In the Pazhassiraja Museum there are many ancient paintings and antique bronzes that have archeological and historic value. In the Pazhassiraja Museum, you can also find all kinds of old bronze and gold coins from the past along with many monuments that are megalithic in nature like the dolmonoid cysts.

Krishna Menon Museum

One of the things that make the Indian culture so rich and full of heritage is definitely its many leaders. There are many world known leaders and definitely Krishna Menon is one of them. The world famous Indian leader V. K Krishna Menon is honored here in this special Krishna Menon Museum. The Krishna Menon Museum is located near Calicut and it is a place that must be seen whenever you go to India. Of course, in the Krishna Menon Museum there are also various other exhibits besides the great leader. You can get a taste of the rich Indian history in this unique museum.

Art Gallery

Art Gallery is one of the few places in India that cater to the needs of art and literature lovers. In a country filled with temples and monuments, the Art Gallery in Calicut offers a distinct change of a scenery from the usual things. If you are an art connoisseur then definitely you will have to visit the Art Gallery. It contains the paintings of Raja Raja Varma, which is a very famous Indian painter who is said to have used the first oil paints in India when doing art. You can see many fine examples of his work and of others while there.

Walavalkar Shivaji Museum

Location

The Walvalkar Shivaji Museum has many exhibits which include pictures and statues that depict the life of Maharaja Chatrapti Shivaji . The museum was completed over a period of 15 years at the cost of approximately Rs. 1 crore and brought by a social worker Sitarambura Walvalkar. The museum is located on the road towards Derwan on Mumbai- Goa highway.

Walavalkar Shivaji Museum is a marvelous place to see, where the entire life history of Shivaji is displayed. The great Martha rulers’ life history is presented through exhibits of pictures and statues. The museum was completed in a period of 15 years at a cost of one crore rupees.

Purwar Museum

Location

The Purwar Museum is a small museum situated in Sarafa road. The museum is housed in a fantastic old haveli. The museum has exquisite collections of a retired doctor. The personal collections of doctor Purwar is on display since the year 1970.

The collections in the museum consists of a 500 year old chain maul suit, a copy of the kuran written by Auranzeb. The museum also contains an 800 year old paithani sari as exhibit. An old timer shop is located near the museum.

Himachal State Museum

Location

Located on the Mall road, the State Museum is a colonial building set in spacious lawns. Having a good collection of coins, photographs, local handicrafts and other items the museum is a humongous building. The doll gallery consists of a collection of Himachali bride and tribal dolls while the collection of Pahari miniature painting is also worth a look.

The museum has a vast collection of damaged sculptures from all over the state preserved here, like the 8th century stone images from Masrur and Bajaura. Apart from these there are many rare specimens worth seeing.

Tibet Museum

Location

Tibet museum has the credit of being the first modern Museum in Dharamsala. The Museum is settled in a huge plinth area with separate places for meeting, exhibitions and displays. The Museum is a real example of original Tibetan architectural style blended with modern style of constructions.

The museum encloses valued collections of historical documents, manuscripts, Thangka images, pottery and many handicraft items. The visitors in the museum are amazed with the cultural and artistic excellence of Tibetan people.
