Chinese Fishing Nets

Location

The Chinese fishing nets found at Kochi are definitely unique to the area. This is the only location in the entire world outside of China where such fishing nets can be seen in use. Tradition has it that traders from the court of the infamous Chinese ruler Kublai Khan brought these nets here centuries ago, and their popularity has been maintained. Even today, many local fishermen use these enormous nets in their fishing endeavors. A large number of these nets can be seen scattered throughout a whole stretch of the coast along Fort Kochi and Vypeen.

Thikkoti Light House

Thikkoti Light House is situated in Calicut. It is one of the most interesting monuments that can be found in India. There is a very interesting history concerning Thikkoti Light House. According to the history, Thikkoti Light House was built on the remains of a shipwreck that was from a boat that crashed near the rocky shore. Thus, Thikkoti Light House is a fearful reminder of that accident and thus the light house is heeded by all sailors. It is however, definitely a place to be seen, especially if you go to Calicut India.

Mananchira Square

Mananchira Square is one of the splendid places that is found in India in the region of Calicut. Mananchira Square is actually the palace tank of King Vikrama, who was one of the great rulers in the region. Mananchira Square has a splendid and a traditional architectural design that is reminiscent of the splendor of the old times in India. Mananchira Square has green grass that is carpeted across the area and you have many old Kerala type buildings in the place. Mananchira Square has an open ground with a musical fountain that attracts many visitors every day.

Kirtads

If you are looking for a good place to seen and understand the ethnic culture and the rich history of the Indian people then you should definitely visit Kirtads. Kirtads is actually a very special museum that shows us glimpses of the past. The main area of concern in the Museum is The Kerala tribe communities of the ancient times. You can find many tools and weapons that were used in the era of the Kerala. In addition, there is a vast anthropological library and an archeological library that has much information on the past history and tribal life styles of ancient India.

Jaigad Lighthouse

Location

The Jaigad light house was built in the year 1832. The Jaigad Lighthouse is situated in one of the bastion. This bastion is known as Siddha Buruj.

The Jaigad lighthouse is still functional. It is located on the western edge of the Jaigad Fort. The Jaigad lighthouse is spectacular. It has stood here for years and is still strong now.

The lighthouse is open to the visitors from 4 - 5 pm on all week days except on Sundays when it remains closed.
