Madras High Court

Location

The Madras (Chennai) High Court building, red sandstone Indo-Saracen building is situated near the St George Fort at Parry's Corner. The building was constructed in 1892 and is considered to be the second largest judicial complex in the world. The central tower of the building is 165 ft high. Tourists can enter inside and see the building from 10:30 to 14:30 hrs on all days expect Sundays and public holidays.

Clock Tower

Location

A monument rather than a clock tower, this royal façade of the ancient Rajput reign stands proudly in the near surroundings of the busy Church Road. It situates in the fifth street from the church road.

A lofty structure, this clock tower might have been served a lot to the locals in their routine life. This magnificent formation houses the commanding view of the near by locality. Its towering edifice presents brilliant architectural talents and this monument is a proud testimonial to the progressive rule of the illustrious Rajputs.

Ajaipal

Location

A picturesque spot, Ajaipal, is the place where the famous king Ajaipal embraced Islam and led a life of an ascetic after an extensive time in power. A devoted follower of the Sufi saint Khawaja Sahib, the king was amazed by the formers saintly powers, Ajaipal desired to have a pious life.

The rustic beauty of this hamlet mixed with a beautiful legend offers a nice time to the tourists. It is believed that, the immortal spirit of the king is still there to serve the mankind and that makes this historic place an important spot in Ajmer.

Varkala Tunnel

Location

Situated under one of the cliffs, this century old tunnel was once a marvel. Now it is not used for any commercial purpose. This 924ft tunnel was used to pass boats carrying goods and people from Thiruvanthapuram and Kollam. The construction of this tunnel began in 1867 under the British regime and completed in 1880. It is popularly known as Varkala Turuthu.

Gramam

Location

The Gramam of Palakkad trace their story to a love story of a Kochi Prince who fell in love with a tribal girl of Palakkad. He was banished from his kingdom and the brahmins of Kochi refused to formalise the ceremonies when he settled in Palakkad. The prince did not give up and requested the brahmins from Tamil Nadu to oblige him. They did so and settled down in Palakkad. The area which they inhabited and its surrounding came to be known as gramam or agraharam. The gramam today encompass the areas of Kalapthy, Kumarapuram, Ramanathpuram, Ambikapuram, Chokkanathpuram.

Top Station

Location

Top Station is 41 km from Munnar, and is appropriately named. This is the main abode to the highest tea plantations of India. It takes one hour to reach Top Station from Munnar.

It is located on the borders of both the states, Kerala as well as Tamilnadu and dictates an absolute panoramic view. Tourists keep visiting top station as it is in the Theni district of Tamil Nadu and Idukki district of Kerala. It is at an altitude of 1700 meters.

This area is famous for exceptional flowers such as Neelakurinji flowers. Buses ply frequently between Munnar and Top Station.

Kolukkumalai Tea Estate

Location

Kolukkumalai tea estate is 35 km from Munnar. This is on a precipitous ridge above the scorching plains of Tamilnadu. This is the highest reputed tea estate at approximately 8000 feet above the sea level. It takes 90 minutes from Munnar to reach this tea estate.

It produces excellent flavorsome teas and is publicized as the world highest tea production. Besides tea, Kolukkumalai is prominent for it panoramic views, and rugged mountains. On clear nights Kodaikanal is visible from this estate.

Yakshi Statue

Location

Yakshi Statue: The Yakshi Statue is yet another interesting feature in the Malampuzha area. It sits directly in the Malampuzha Gardens and is set off beautifully by the greenery that surrounds it. This statue is an enormous rock sculpture of Yakshi created by the renowned sculptor Kanai Kanhiraman. Yakshi is traditionally thought of as an enchantress, and this persona adds to the intrigue of this magnificent piece of art. To make this statue even more impressive, the entire huge piece was carved out of one single piece of granite.
