Assam Rajyik Museum

Location

The Assam Rajyik Museum (Museum of the State) provides a pleasant and enterprising experience regarding the culture, heritage and history of Contemporary Assam. The museum boasts of a large knowledge base through its library which holds scripts and books dating to ancient periods.

The History of Assam and the History of mankind displays are worth a mention. The beautiful dress codes followed by the tribals and the jewellery and weaponry used by the tribes are a special attraction.

Jawaharlal Nehru State Museum

Location

Unlike the boring and droning Government museums that we are used to, The Jawaharlal Nehru State Museum comes as a breath of fresh air. A vibrant place, full of entertaining information regarding the woodcarvings, musical instruments, creations and types of textiles and handicrafts, the museum provides a quiet relief for the tired legs and fatigued body to relax and enjoy the culture of Arunachal Pradesh. There is also a special section on archeological finds.

State Museum

Location

A storehouse of rarities, the Tripura Government Museum is located in Agartala. It was founded in 1970 with an aim to preserve the rich heritage of Tripura. It houses several artefacts which are a great testimony to the glorious history of the state. Numerous Manuscripts preserved in the museum speak volume about the art and crafts of the state.

St. Thomas, Church & Museum

Location

The old St. Thomas Church has been converted into a museum which houses antique statues, various stone inscriptions of the earlier rulers, wooden carvings and idols, in evening, multicolored fountains and special lighting of the imposing building fascinate everyone.

A huge edifice in gothic architecture was built in 1598. A part of it has been converted into a museum - an archaeological treasure house.

Diu Museum

Location

The old St. Thomas Church situated near St. Paul Church Diu has been converted into a museum which houses the antique statues, various stone inscriptions of the earlier rulers. Wooden carvings, idols, shadow-clocks and other important artifacts have been collected from various sites and displayed.

Samudrika Marine Museum

Samudrika Marine Museum, run by the Indian Navy, is located at Delanipur in Andaman. This museum is aimed at generating awareness among the visitor about the environment in the ocean and the marine life. The Samudrika Marine Museum has five sections dealing with history of Andaman Islands, Geographical information, people of Andaman, Archeology and finally the Marine life.

The museum is enriched with various collections of corals, shells and fish fauna. This museum is a real treasure of worthy marine life, especially that of rare fish species.

Forest Museum

Forest Museum in Andaman is situated at Haddo and is run by the Forest Department of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The museum very typical in its contents displays the artifacts made out of timber including peauma, oak, gurjan, paduak and satin wood. The Museum helps the visitor to get some insight in the forestry and related activities. One can see many attractive models in timber showcased here.
