The Lakshminarsimha temple, built by the Hoysalas in the heart of the town and the Rameshwara temple built on the banks of the river Tunga attract pilgrims from all parts of Karnataka and other states. Pilgrims frequent here for a darshans and a holy dip in the river. Bhadravathi is also most prominent Industrial centre in Shimoga district. The renowned Sir M Vishweshwaraiah Iron & Steel factory, The Mysore paper Mills and Sugar Factories were harbingers of Karnataka's industrial development.
Sigandooru is a holy place of Goddess Chaudeshwari. A large temple of Goddess Chaudeshwari is situated here. This Goddess is a highly believed deity in Sagara and the surrounding taluks as a protector against theft and robbery. Coupons for entry will be distributed on first come first serve basis.
This is another historically important place with a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is situated at a distance of 8 km from the town and one has to travel along Sorab Road for 6 km and take a diversion.
Some distance away from fort is the Fort Jami Masjid, a fine building with two entrances.
The biggest temple dedicated to Virupaksha is enclosed in a large quadrangle surrounded by small cells, has a massive gateway and several inscriptions.
According to one of these inscriptions, Lokamahadevi, wife of Vikramaditya II in commemoration of his conquest of Kanchi, built the temple.
Besides scenes from Mahabharata and Ramayana, there is a wonderful carving designed to look like an elephant from one side and buffalo from the other.
These temples are dedicated to Virupaksha. In front of the temple, is a majestic 2.6 metres high Nandi. The Mallikarjuna and Papanatha temples are delicately chiseled, and rich in detail.
The Yoganandeeshwara Temple was built by the Cholas. Shiva, the austere, is the resident of the temple. Most of the attention is taken by the two Dwarpalakas which guard the entrance of the temple. This temple is on the top of the hill.
The temple serves the students of architecture and sculpture as a study centre. This temple has an inscription and it is believed that the dedication is in the name of Sambhaji the son of Chhatrapati Shivaji. The prayers of the people is taken to God through the inscription which is known as ‘Kodi Maram’.
The Nandi Temple is situated on the foot hills of Nandi hills. It was built during the period of the Banas, Cholas, Hoysalas and the Kings of Vijayanagar. The residing divinities are Bhoganandiswara and Yoganandiswara. The sponsor for the temple were the Vijayanagar Kings.
The temple is adorned with pillars and metal work which are beautiful and attractive. The temple was built by Kempe Gowda who was a local ruler in the Vijayanagara kings period. There is a lamp tower in front of the temple and it is lighted every evening by a boy who wobbles up the tower.
Brahmashram is a cool and beautiful cave near Nandi Hills. This cave has the unique distinction of being the meditation place of Sage Ramakrishna Paramhamsa. The Sage, who is one of the greatest devotee of Godess Kali, meditated here.
The Ashram is a tourist attraction. Many tourists visit this place for the weather is very cool in the caves.
