The Ghat (Jetty) where Lord Rama is believed to have taken 'jal samadhi' (leaving the earth for 'Baikuntha', the divine abode of Lord Vishnu, by drowning himself). It has picturesque view of the saryu river and its green banks and has several ancient temples. The view of sunset from Guptar Ghat is breathtaking. a boat ride is a must while visiting this place.
Dotted with so many religious places and holy shrines, Ayodhya is a venerated place that has been revered by all, fraction of Hindu ideology. This holy land bears close association with Lord Ram, the hero in the great epic Ramayana. Almost all the places in Ayodhya in one or the other way are related to this legendary ruler who is regarded as an icon of virtue.
Bharat Kund, at Nandigram (20 km from Ayodhya) is said to be the place where Bharat ruled while Ram was in exile for 14 years.
Bara Banki is situated 107 km from Ayodhya, and is famous for the mausoleum of a Sufi Saint, Syed Haji Ali Waris Shah. The place is a fusion of Indo-Iranian architecture, built in 1905 AD.
Ganapathi Devasthana located in Ramanna Shreste Park, Basaveshwar Temple located in Gandhi Bazar, Marikamba Devasthana , Kannika Parmeshwari etc are other temples located within the city limits. And it is said that there are 21 or more Ganapathi devasthanas around Shimoga city.
5 Kms from Balligave lies Talagunda. Several ancient inscriptions are found here. The Pranseshwara temple is a must see. To the east of Talagunda is "Prabhudeva Gaddige".
