Pari Hareswar Devalaya

Location

Pari Hareswar Devalaya is located in the holy town of Dubi, which is also known as Bajali subdivision of Shiva Singha, the Ahom king. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is believed to be constructed during the ancient period. Constructed by Shiva Singha, the temple is situated on a granted land measuring about 760 Puras, which is stated on the copper plate preserved at the temple.

Tukreswari

Location

Tukreswari Temple is a prominent religious spot nestled by the side of National Highway 37 at Tukura, located at a distance of around 15 km from Goalpara Town. It is commonly believed that a portion of Goddess Sati fell at the site and hence, the temple is recognized as Tukreswari. The temple of Tukreswari is located on the top of the Tukreswari hill, where there is also a temple dedicated to Shiva.

Nandeswar Devalaya

Location

Nandeswar Devalaya is one of the ancient shrines established on the top of Nandeswar hill that stands by the side of river Dudhnoi. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and it is believed that the temple was constructed in 10th or 11th century AD. Different festivals including Shivaratri, Dol jatra and Durga Puja are celebrated in the temple and devotees participate in all of these festivals.

Sri Sri Joybhum Kamakhya Temple

Location

Among 51 ‘Sakti Sthal’ of Hinduism, Sri Sri Joybhum Kamakhya Temple is a major one nestled in the bank of River Brahmaputra, located at a distance of around 50 km. from Goalpara Town. The earthquake happened in the 17th century caused major devastation of the temple. However, the temple was entirely reconstructed with the initiative of the Zamindar of Meshpara, who also introduced regular puja system. According to the available records, the temple possesses Debbottor Land, spanning an area of 28 bighas. There is also a temple of Lord Shiva built near the Joybhum Kamakhya Temple.

Buraburi Than, Mothertola

Location

Buraburi Than, a significant religious site is situated on the riverbank of Brahmaputra near Jaleswar. It represents national integrity since people from different religions take part in the religious function as it is learnt. It is believed that an elderly man and an elderly woman (Bura Buri) used to offer ‘payas’ (milk made rice) as ‘prasad’ to the cow boys, locally called ‘rakhals’. However, according to the local people, the Bura Buri was converted to a Giant Stone and since then it was revered by the local habitats.

Sri Sri Chaitanya Gaudiya Math

Location

Sri Sri Chaitanya Gaudiya Math was set up at Goalpara in 1969 with the aim of expanding Sri Krishna Chaitanya culture. It was established on a donated plot of land at the heart of the town. The regular Puja Sangkirtan held in the Math is very popular with the tourists. Religious festivals are also celebrated at the site according to the Sri Chaitanya Calendar. Thousands of devotees from several parts of the area frequent the Math. Foreigners also attend the Math during the celebration of important annual festival.
