Barpeta, renowned as the "Land of the Satras", is located on the western part of Assam nearing the Bengal boarder. The town is 44 km away from Manas National Park and serves as the gateway to this Park. The rivers - Saolkhowa and Mora Nodi (Dead River), which are tributaries of Brahmaputra, run through the town.
