Singsor Ani Gompa

Location

Singsor Ani Gompa, one of the most beautiful and famous nunneries of Tawang District, is on the way to Geshila. Located at a distance of around 28 kilometre towards the west of the Headquarters of Tawang district, it is home to approximately 30 nuns. In 1960, the new Ani Gompa was constructed by the Rev. Gonpatse Rimpoche. However, the old Ani Gompa is still in existence, which is located amidst the 'Shaa' of nuns.

Gyangong Ani Gompa

Location

Gyangong Ani Gompa, perched on the top of a beautiful hillock is nunnery, is located at a distance of around 5 kilometre in the north of Tawang. Being home to about 50 Buddhist nuns, it was found by Mera Lam Lodre Gyamtso. This nunnery was subsequently offered to Mera Lam Lodre Gyamsto by his elder sister.

This Nunnery is under the control and management of Tawang Monastery. In addition, the Tawang Monastery provides the things required for everyday needs of the nuns.

Gorsam Chorten

Location

Gorsam Chorten, located at a distance of 90 kilometre from Tawang town, is the largest stupa of the entire area. Believed to be constructed in the early part of 12th century, it is founded by a Monpa monk, Lama Pradhar. On the top of the chorten is a semi-circular dome that rests up on a three-terraced plinth. In addition, on the lower most terrace of the plinth, there are four miniature stupas standing erect on the four corners.

Taktsang Gompa

Location

Taktsang Gompa, located at a distance of 45 kilometre from Tawang Township, is one of the most famous tourist attractions. The site of this gompa is believed to be blessed in the 8th century AD by the visit of Guru Padmasambhava.

Perched on the ridge of a small hill, the monastery is surrounded by dense coniferous forest, where devotees can conduct a roundabout. It is also believed that it is the same place where Guru Padmasambhava meditated.

Regyaling Gompa

Location

Regyaling Gompa, constructed by the former Rigya Rinpoche, is located at a distance of 1 kilometre from Tawang Township. However, after his death, the charge of the Gompa was taken over by his secretary, Chang-sey. The monastery is surrounded by a lush green pine grove. The reincarnation of Rigya Rinpoche, Rev. Tenzin Tsedhar is presently completing his education in South India.

Shiva Linga

Location

Shiva Linga is located in the well known Sidheswar Nath Temple and was built in July 2004. This lingam has a height of 25 feet and a width of 22 feet. Tourists can see the constant flow of water from the base of the lingam. The temple has beautiful idols of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Parvati.

Gorokhia Gosair Than

Location

Gorokhia Gosair Than is located at Niz Sariha in Sorbhog. Covering an area of around 25 bighas, the Than is believed to be found by cowherds, also known as Gorokhias. Shri Narayan Das Thakur Ata, a disciple of Shrimanta Sankardeva, visited the site while offering preaching to natives residing in the adjoining areas.

The structure located in the premises of the Than is the replica of Kirtanghar at Barpeta Satra, where Doul festival is organised annually.
