Arjun Gufa

Location

Arjun Gufa : On the left bank of the river Beas, near Prini village, is the "Arjun Gufa" or the cave of Arjuna. It is believed that Arjuna practiced austerities to get Pashupata Ashtra or weapon from Lord Indra. 4 kms from Manali towards Naggar, the cave is situated near Prini village 1km. above the road where Arjun had meditated. This is a good 1/2 day excursion with charming view of the brilliant mountains.

Vashisht Baths

Location

A tiny locale, situated on the banks of the majestic River Ravi, Vashisht is bestowed with natural springs and fabulous sand stone temples. Just about thirty minutes leisurely walk fetch oneself to this sleepy hamlet. Situated at the suburbs of the town, Springs of Vashisht are very significant for their medicinal value. The gushing waters of the hot brooks are excellent ailments for skin diseases. Large number of people folk here to have a dip in these hot streams. The authorities have arranged separate bathing provisions for men and women.

Jagat Suhk

Location

About 6 kms. from Manali is the famous Shiva Temple in "shikara" style. It houses temples dedicated to Lord Shiva and Sandhya Gayatri. The original name of this was 'Nast', it remained the ancient capital of Kullu for about 10 generations. Jagatsukh is famous for its Shiva temple in Shikhara Style and interesting old temple of 'Gayatri Devi' and Devi Sharvali.

Manu Temple

Location

Believed to be the abode of Manu, Manali houses a lovely shrine dedicated to this ancient lawgiver of India. The popular belief is that this place is closely connected with the seventh incarnation of the great sage. Mythology says that he saved the Vedas and the seven sages from this inundation. It is assumed that subsequent to the great flood, Manu landed at Manali and then lived here.

Hadimba Temple

Location

The patron-deity of the Rajas of Kullu, Hadimba Temple or Dhungri Temple has a over flowing history which date back to the epic era. This temple is dedicated to Hadimba a 'Rakshashi’, and is built in the year 1553. A Pagoda styled shrine in the midst of a deep cedar forest, Hadimba temple resembles the Naggar Temple.

Gadhan Thekchhokling Gompa

Location

One among the finest attractions in Manali is the Gadhan Thekchhokling Gompa, which is a renowned Buddhist monastery built in the year 1960. A large number of refugees from the neighbouring Tibet makes this hill station as their home town and it was by them this famous monastery was constructed. This lively and pleasing monastery is well known for its pagoda-style yellow roof. Gorgeous wall paintings illustrating the ideology of Buddhism embellish the Gompa. Gadhan Gompa depicts an image of Buddha.

Triloknath Temple

Location

This village is famous for a unique Shiva Temple which was given a Buddhist look by Guru Padmasambhava. So, along with a statue of Shiva, you can also see 6 armed image of Avalokiteshvar. The temple holds a significant place in the hearts of both Hindus and Buddhists who together celebrate the festival of Pauri with much enthusiasm. This festival is celebrated in the month of August and has people from other religion also participating.

Tayul Gompa

Location

One of the oldest monasteries of the valley; famous for the big statue of Guru Padmasamhava and a huge library. Tayul Gompa is 6 kms. from Keylong and is one of the oldest monasteries of the valley. It has a big statue of Guru Padmasamhava rising about 5 m high and houses library of Kangyur having 101 volumes. The monastery is located around 6 km from Keylong and is counted amongst the oldest monasteries in the Lahaul valley. The highlight of the monastery is a 5 feet tall statue of Guru Padmasmbhava and a library of Kangyur (101 volumes).
