Jaina Math

Location

Jain Matht in Sravanabelagola is the monastery of Charukeerthi Bhattarakha Swamiji. The first floor of this Mutt was built in 1912 AD. It was later the second floor was constructed. This Math (Mutt) has three cells adorned with eye catching stone and metal idols dating back to 1850 - 1858 AD.

The Jain Mutt enshrines the prime deity of Chandranatha in the sanctum sanctorum. Jain Mutt temple also encloses the image of Yakshi Kushmandinidevi. The Mutt observes regular and festival poojas. There are images of nine deities known as Navadevata Bimba in this Mutt.

Chandragiri Temple

Location

Chandragiri temple, the most famous Jain shrine in Sravanabelagola, is located on the top of the Chandragiri Hills in the Sravanabelagola township. This famous Chandragiri temple was built by Chamundaraya, an ardent disciple of Acharya Nemichandra Siddhanta-chakravarti. This temple, also Iruve Brahmadeva Temple, is one among twenty historical and Jain monuments in the Chandragiri hills.

Bhandaribasadi Temple

Location

Bhandaribasadi Temple is built by Hulla, the treasurer (Bhandari) of Hoysala Kings, in 1126. This basadi is also known as the Chaturvinsati-Jinalaya. It is the largest of all the Jain temples in Sravanabelagola. It is believed that this was built at different stages.

This Jain temple has size 266 feet x 78 feet. It consists of Garbagriha, Mukha Mantapa, Sabhamantapa and Antarala built in simple architectural style. The 3 feet height images of 24 prophets are installed on ornamental pedestals are placed in the temple.

Akkanabasadi Temple

Location

Akkana Basadi, built in 1121 AD by Achiakka, in the Sravanabelagola town is a grandeur specimen of Hoysala sculpture and architecture. Akkana Basadi got its name as it was built by Achiakka, the wife of Chandramouli, a Brahmin minister of the Hoysala King Ballala II. The temple is built in marvelous soap stone. The Akkanabasadi Temple consists of the sanctum sanctorum (Garbagriha), gopurams, sabha mantapa and sukanasi.

Sringeri Mutt

Location

Sarada Temple (Saradamba temple), also renowned as Sringeri Math, is situated at a scenic region in Sringeri along the serene banks of river Sarada temple was established in 7th century by Adi Shankaracharys. The temple is dedicated to Sarada Devi, the Goddess of learning and wisdom. Another deity, one of the Lingas made out of Sphatika (prism), is placed on a Shri Chakra. It is believed that this linga was given to Shankaracharya by Lord Shiva.

Sri Chappara Anjaneya Temple

Location

Sri Chappara Anjaneya temple in Sringeri is dedicated to Lord Hanuman (Anjaneya) ans is perfectly located at a picturesque place with aesthetic beauty and tranquility. Chappara (shelter) offered by the Anjaneya Swami of this temple is appreciated and admired by the devotees of Lord Hanuman.

A full lively structure of the Hanuman idol in black stone is very attractive. Beetle leaves and lemons are offered at this temple by the devotees. Small shrines dedicated to Shiva and serpent gods are also seen in this temple.
