Mallikarjuna Temple

Location

Chittemakki Mallikarjuna temple located at Koppa near Sringeri is a renowned temple where thousands of devotees visit every year. It is believed that the Bhramaramba Ashtakam dedicated to the temple deity is offered by Aadi Sankaracharya, the great prophet and philosopher of Adwaitha philosophy.

The temple is located at the picturesque village of Koppa and is nestled among the coffee and tea plantations. The Mallikarjuna temple is most revered by the local people. There is a steady flow of devotees to this temple from outside Koppa and Sringeri.

Malayala Brahma Temple

Location

The Malayala Brahma Temple in Sringeri is located at the right of Sri Sharadamba Temple. The deity is the Kshetra Palaka, locally known as Malayala Brahma, of the Sringeri Mutt.

Legendary stories related to this temple tells that one of the Malayala Brahmana Scholar got a curse and became a Brahma Rakshas for not sharing his knowledge with others. Sage Vidyaranya asked him to serve as a Kshetra Palaka to come out from the curse he got.

The deity of the Malayala Brahma temple carries a mace and is placed as a care taker of the Sarada Temple.

Kere Anjaneya Temple

Location

Kere Anjaneya temple in the west corner of Sringeri Mutt is a popular temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman. It is the only one Anjaneya Swami temple established and consecrated by Sri Adi Shankaracharya. A lively full size image of Anjaneya (Lord Hanuman) is the prime idol in this temple. The idol has a lotus in the left hand and the right hand is in the posture of giving blessings to devotees. Small shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva and Lord Ganesha are also seen in the premises of this temple.

Adi Shankara Temple

Location

Adi Shankara Temple dedicated to Great Adwaith philosopher Sage Adi Shankara is placed to the left of the famous Sharada temple in Sringeri. A beautiful Adi Shankara image placed on a 2 foot high peetam is enshrining the sanctum of this temple. The image is seen in a Yogasana posture meditating in front of Lingam. The images of four disciples of Shankaracharya are also placed nearby.

Venkataramana Temple

Location

The temple is located on the Billigiri Rangana Betta hills popularly known as BR Hills. The hills are 120 km long. It is a lofty hillock. It is 5091 feet above sea level. The place is an enchanting one.

The Temple has Venkataramana as its main deity. The Lord is popularly known as Bulgier Rangaswamy. There is a fine witnessing platform behind this temple.

There is a wildlife sanctuary near the temple on the hill. This sanctuary has elephants, bison, deer samba and many other wild animals.

Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple

Location

The presiding deity of Srirangapatna is Sri Ranganathaswamy. The expression on the face of the Lord is humanly. The many pillared Temple is dark and the visitors like to take a walk around the temple.

Within the abode of the temple lies the Lord on the back of a snake. The color of the Lord is as dark as the night sky. He looks beautiful with a philanthropic smile on his face.

The temple is well known for its Lakhadweepotsava when one lakh lamps will be lit during Sakranthi.

Puja timings are from 8 to 9.30 am and 7 to 8 pm.

Jumma Masjid

Location

Jumma Masjid is Tipu’s favourite mosque. It is painted white and has an unusual small dome. It also has predominant towers.

The Masjid was built by Tipu Sultan. It is a two storeyed building. The Masjid also has two minarets. A religious school known as the Madrasa can be seen in the premises of the Masjid.

The Jumma Masjid has a clock that has been ticktocking from the past 97 years and is still going strong. Late Abdul Hafeez Junaidi has the distinction of being the only imam to have carried on prayers for 50 years in a row.

Talacauvery

Location

Talacauvery is the source of the river Cauvery. River Cauvery is one of the seven sacred rivers for Hindus inIndia. It is situated at 4,187 feet on the slopes of the Brahmagiri Hills.This place is marked with a tirtha kundike or the Brahma kundike. This is the small pond or spring from where river Cauvery originates in a form of a small perennial spring. First, the river flows underground and then emerges above the ground over a short distance.

A shrine and a big tank have been built near the kundike at Talacauvery. The pilgrims bath in the tank before praying at the origin of the river. Tourists can visit the two temples situated at this place. One temple is dedicated to lord Shiva with a rare ancient Shiva Linga belived to have been installed by Agastya.

Goravanahalli Mahalakshmi Temple

Location

Goravanahalli is one of the popular pilgrim centers located in the Koratagere taluk of Tumkur district. Goravanahalli is situated at about 80 Kms from Bangalore, 30 Kms from Tumkur and 25 km from Koratagere. The unique and ancient temple dedicated to goddess Mahalakshmi. It is believed that the idol of Shri Mahalakshmi is self originated. Special pooja's will be performed on Fridays.
