Gol Gumbaz

Late Mohammed Adil Shah, the Sultan of Bijapur was a renowned ruler and a great warrior. Gol Gumbaz, is the glorious tomb of, the great Sultan, who is remembered for his administrative reforms. Situated in Bijapur, in the state of Karnataka, the dome is believed to have been constructed in the 17th century.

Famed for the excellent Islamic architecture, this monument is considered to be the world's second largest after St Peter's Basilica of Vatican City, Rome.

Seven storied towers of octagonal shape support the corners of this fantastic monument. The sound system in the dome is so designed that it reverberate even a murmuring sound return back to the person exactly nine times.

Ibrahim Rauza

Location

This is one of the best structures in the historic town of Aihole. Designed by Malik Sandal, the site comprises a mosque to the right and a tomb to the left. There is a huge ornamental entrance. The site contains the remains of the great Adil Shah ruler Ibrahim Adil Shah II and his wife. The mausoleum comprises a mosque and four minarets. It is said that the grandeur of this structure inspired the construction of Taj Mahal. A neatly maintained garden complements the beauty of the monument.

The Citadel

Location

This is a centrally located site. The Citadel is surrounded by its own walls and there is a wide moat in the center of the premise. It has in its enclosure palaces, gardens and halls which belonged to the Adil shah rulers. It was built by Yusuf Adil shah.

Most of the structures are dilapidated and some have been converted to government buildings but the unique charm of the place cannot be missed when you visit the place.

Malik-e-Maidan

Location

'Malik-E-Maidan' meaning the 'lord of the battlefield' is the largest medieval cannon in the world, fourteen feet long and weighing about 55 tons. Perched on a platform especially built for it, the cannon's nozzle is fashioned into the shape of a lion's head. In 1854 AD, the cannon was auctioned for Rs. 150 but the sale was cancelled in the end.

Bidar Fort

Location

Built by Ahmad Shah Bahmani between 1426 and 1432 A.D, has five Darwazas (gates) with imposing bastions lead into a little town nestling within the ramparts. Enter from the Gumbaz Darwaza and steps lead you to the Rangin Mahal. The royal residence has elaborately carved wooden pillars, Persian couplets engraved in encaustic tiles and exquisite mother-of-pearl inlay work.

Near the palace are the royal kitchens and the royal baths. Further on are the Ladies Apartments with a 16 columned prayer hall built in 1423. The Solah Kamba Masjid, as it is popularly known, is the oldest Muslim building in Bidar and one of the largest in India.

Belgaum Fort

Location

Belguam fort takes center stage The old stone fort, built in 12th century ad by the local Ratta rulers, is an important spot, though not much of the original structure remains. Who can resist to stroll around this interesting pre Muslim monument? where mosques and temples coexist in perfect harmony. At the very entrance, you will find two shrines, one dedicated to the elephant God Ganapathi, and the other to the Goddess Durga.

The original capital of Rattas and a celebrated pilgrim centre. The fort here was built in 1734 by Sirasangi Desai. The eight mighty bastions are worth a look. The Yellamma Temple is famous goddess for Joguthi tribal people. It is also called as Yellamma Gudda. It is at a distance of 70 Kms from Belgaum.

City Palace, the largest Palace complex in the state of Rajasthan assumed to be built in 16th century, is a majestic white marble palace royally placed perfectly in a peak reflecting its beauty in the Pichola Lake. The city palace is guarded by huge fort walls and comprises of mammoth pillars, huge domes and arches and terraces.

The palace is a specimen of Mewar style of architecture and evolution of architecture in Mewar based on European and Chinese architectural methods.
