Loktak Lake

Location

Loktak lake is like a miniature sea. It is the largest fresh water lake in the North-East. Sendra is a hillock of an island of Loktak lake, 48Kms away from Imphal City on Tidim road. From the Tourist bunglow, set atop Sendra island, visitors can get a birds eye-view of the unique Loktak Lake and the floating mass called "Phumdis". The main feature of this lake is the floating islands and the Brow Antlered deer.Loktak lake is known for its view which is adorned by beautiful natural serene and picturesque just at a distance of 48 kms away from Imphal.

Loktak Lake is one of the prominent freshwater lakes located in the Thoubal District. The lake is renowned for the presence of the floating biomass and is covered with heterogeneous mass of soil, vegetation and organic matter. This heterogeneous mass is locally known as the phumdis. In the vicinity lies the Keibul Lamjao National Park (KLNP) which is home to endangered species of deer, the Cervus eldi eldi, locally known as Sangai.
