Senchal Lake

Location

Senchal Lake is located at an altitude of 8515 feet above the sea level. This lake serves as the water reservoir for the supply of water for Darjeeling. It is approximately 11 km from the town and is close to Tiger Hills. It is especially appreciated for its scenic splendor—a picnic spot, which is very popular among the tourists, both Indian and others. The area has a 9-hole golf course with a clubhouse.

Observatory Hill

Location

The Mall road originates and culminates at the Chowrashtra. The hill atop the Mall is the Observatory Hill. This hill is attached to strong religious faith and great importance both for the Hindus and the Buddhists.

The sacred Mahakal temple rests on this hill; Mahakal is considered to be the incarnation of Lord Shiva. The Bhutia Busty Gomba was originally situated in this hill and later relocated to the current place. Thus the hill serves as a witness to the harmony between the Hindus and the Budhists.

Kanchenjunga

Location

Kanchenjunga is the third highest mountain in the world (the first two being Mount Everest and K2), standing at an altitude of 8586 m. There are five peaks in Kanchenjunga. If you watch Kanchenjunga from the Observatory Hills, you might be deceived that the mount is a calm and serene upheaval of ice and snow.

Birch Hill Park

Location

Jawahar Parbat or Birch Hill Park is close to the Mall and the Raj Bhawan is located here. About two km from Observatory Hill, on the western side of Birch Hill is the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute. The museum showcases an array of mountaineering equipment, flora and fauna specimens, clothes of the native tribes and numerous souvenirs sent by Mountaineering clubs of the world.

Susunia Hills

Location

50 kms. The famous rock inscription of Chandavarma can be seen on the walls of a cave and dates back to the 4th century AD. Susunia is connected to Bankura town by bus. Delightful holiday resort in winter. Also, a centre for rock climbing & trekking.

Susunia hill is quite popular as treakking spot both inside & out side of Bankura district. It is also an important tourist spot for the people who visit the place to see "Dhara" (Natural Spring) & Silialipi

Bindu Dam

Location

Built on the Jaldhaka River. Rare view of the Bhutan Himalayas and snow peak mountains in the winters. However, one can cross the dam only by foot. Bindu Dam has been constructed on the Jaldhaka River in order to supply water to Jaldhaka Hydel Project. Travellers visiting Bindu Dam during winters can enjoy the glimpse of snow clad mountains.

Tapan Dighi

Location

`Dighi` stands for lake and Tapan Dighi is one of the largest in the area. It is located at Tapan at a distance of 35 Km. from Balurghat and 15 Km. from Gangarampur. King Laxman Sen is supposed to have ordered digging of this lake. The lake is about 2 Km in length and about 1 Km in breadth.
