Alpather Lake

Location

13 km from Gulmarg, lies the Alpather Lake at the foot of the Apharwat peaks. The lake is covered with snow throughout the year. It is frozen until June and even later one can see lumps of ice floating in the lake. The lake and the nearby area is an ideal place for trekking.

There are several other places near Gulmarg that simply prove to be tourists' delights. The outer circular walk in Gulmarg is a wonderful way to have a glimpse of the Nanga Parbat, Harmukh, the rugged slopes of Ferozepur, Sunset Peak and the Apharwat Ridge.

Khilanmarg

Location

This beautiful valley is the most picturesque place filled with countless flowers near Gulmarg. Located 6 km from Gulmarg, Khilanmarg offers a breathtaking view of the majestic peaks with their reflections in Wular and other lakes. Spring is the best season to walk through this valley.

Durgapur Barrage

Location

Durgapur Barrage is definitely one of the best places to see the effort of people to contain nature’s fury. To say in few words, Durgapur Barrage is a real embodiment of human effort. One can see a phenomenal sight of water letting out from the lock-gates of barrage. The canal is a few yards away from the main barrage. There is a short foot bridge over it. One can try to cross over it, a wonderful experience. Enjoy the beauty and cool breeze in the beach.

Frazerganj

Location

Fraserganj has a beautiful beach and is only 2 kms away from Bakkhali. The white sand beach, is entirely different from the other beaches. It is pristine pure and holds the charms of a beach unspoilt. It can be accessed from Kolkata, and is a three hours drive on very good roads. The destination is also all too famous for the migratory birds that can be sighted over there.

Tiger Hill

Location

The Tiger Hill is located about 11 km from Darjeeling, at an altitude of 2555 meters above the sea level. The dawn view of Kanchenjunga, the highest mount after Mount Everest and K2, and other eastern peaks of the Himalayas is excellent.

On a clear day, Mount Everest, which is around 225 km from Tiger Hills, can also be seen; however, this is a rare sight. One must get up at 4 am to be able to be there to watch the sunrise. As the sun rises, the color of the mountain changes, which is an amazing sight.
