Sozhaiyaar (Solaiyaar) Dam

Location

The Sozhaiyaar dam which could also be spelled as Solaiyaar is situated some few distance away from Coimbatore city, Tamil Nadu. The Sozhaiyaar dam stands as a building monument and it grabs the attention of large number of tourist people. The dam is quite familiar and it is known for its magnificence. Thirumoorthi Dam

The Thirumoorthi dam is situated some few kilometers away from Coimbatore city, Tamil Nadu. The thirumoorthy hills adjoin the Thirumoorthy Dams and form an excellent scenic look. Vydehi Falls

The Vydehi water falls is situated some 35 kilometers away from the Coimbatore city, Tamil Nadu. Kalhatti Falls

Location

Kalhatti Falls is a magnificent waterfall that plummets 400 feet or 122 meters. Sometimes these falls are referred to as the Kalahasti Falls. It is almost a transcendental experience to witness the raw power that this waterfall contains, yet it radiates beauty and grace at the same time. The falls are surrounded by beautiful greenery.

Bellikkal Lake

Location

Bellikkal Lake is a beautiful water feature that has some great views to offer. Fishing here may not be a good idea since this lake is a popular watering hole for a variety of wild animals. Elephants can be frequently seen getting a drink early in the morning or right at dusk here. Tigers, bear, bison, and deer are all possible animals that could be sighted as well. A wide variety of birds also like to frequent this lake. It is not uncommon to see such birds as bulbuls, shrikes, morning doves, crow pheasants, drongos, and wood peckers.

Auro Beach

Location

Also known as Repose, the Auro Beach is at a walking distance from the Auroville Bus stop on East Coast Road. Considered a local favorite, the beach is filled with tourists, both Indian and foreigners, especially over the weekends.

Top Slip (Topslip)

Location

Top Slip is one of the main locations within the Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary. The name top slip comes from the practice carried out in 19th century, of sliding logs of teak timber down the hills that took place in this area. It is at the Top Slip Recreation area that you park your personal vehicle within the sanctuary. Your vehicle will remain there for your entire stay since personal vehicles are prohibited throughout the sanctuary. It is also here that reservation check-ins occur, forest rangers can be found, and forest jeeps are rented.

Mt Stuart Block

Location

Mt Stuart Block is located a short three kilometers from Top Slip and is home to an ancient forest department bungalow. The grave of Hugo Wood can be found there. Hugo Wood was a British officer that made sure that teak wood saplings were planted to replace any teak timber that was harvested. His tombstone is inscribed with a Latin phrase that translates to mean “If you want to see me, look around". This area has many bears there, so sighting one is definitely a possibility. Be cautious where you step though, because so many bears mean a large amount of droppings and pug marks.

Harangi Dam

Location

A main picnic spot in Dubare, Harangi dam with a length of 846 meters and a height of 47 meters is constructed across a small stream in the forest of Dubare across the offshoot of river Kaveri close to Kushalnagar. One can access its beauty when the reservoir is fully filled with water during the monsoon period, primarily in the months August and September.
