BBD Bagh

Location

The British had a penchant for creation of colossal monuments. The BBD Bagh area is witness to a similar structure created in one of the affluent zones of the city. Once the very seat of British Power, fondly remembered as the Dalhousie Square, it was later renamed after the three original writers (Binoy, Badal and Dinesh) who toiled in building. Established in the year 1880 the BBD Bagh building and the surrounding area is still remembered by the old timers as a British landmark.

Tashiding

Location

Tashiding is one of the centuries old British colonial Bungalows in Kalimpong. This is located perfectly at the middle of the Kalimpong town. This is a specimen of the western architecture and the glorious period of British Raj in India. This is placed in scenic surroundings with a stunning garden adoring the front yard. Presently this bungalow is used as a budget hotel run by tourism department of West Bengal.

Galingka

Location

Galingka is a bungalow built during the British regime located at the majestic backdrop of the Kanchenjunga peak, the second largest peak in Himalayan ranges. Like Crockety, this bungalow was also built by British wool traders for their use during their trade travel. The exquisite architectural style and the picturesque surroundings make this bungalow a picnic spot for the tourists. This is built after this area is renowned as a summer hill resort.

Tomb of Madin Sahib

Location

Tomb of Madin Sahib, one of the most attractive tombs in Srinagar, was constructed in memory of the saint Madin Sahib and is situated to the north of the Madin Sahib mosque at Zadibal. The exterior of the walls is ornamented with glossy tiles, an attractive style of architecture of Kashmir in the 15th century.

Pari Mahal (Quntilon)

Location

Once the royal observatory, Pari Mahal has a charmingly laid out garden and is a five-minute drive from Cheshmashahi. A Buddhist monastery at one time, it was converted into a school of astrology by Dara Shikoh, Mughal Emperor Shah Jehan's eldest son. Situated on the spur of a mountain overlooking the Dal, the ancient monument, with a well-laid spacious garden in front, is connected to Cheshmashahi by road. It is illuminated at night.

Location

Abbott Mount cottage is a colonial style lodge which offers four rooms with a kitchen and an independent toilet. The place has a picturesque church which is set among the forests and it offers excellent Himalayan views and is perfect for birding, nature treks and has an old cricket pitch with amazing views of the mountains.

Puratan Bari (Old House)

Location

Puratan Bari or Old House was Holy Mother’s ancestral home in which she lived many years, about 52 years from 1863 to 1915, with her brother Prasanna Mukhopadhyaya. Old House was the original house in which Holy Mother started the initiating of her disciples and devotees. Many people received Brahmacharya and Sanyasa initiation from Holy Mother in this old house.
