Sunheri Mahal

Location

The Sunheri Mahal was constructed by a Bandalkand chief who came with Auranzeb into the Dakhan. The Mahal is located in Paharsingpura, which is a suburb of Aurangabad. The structure is made of stone and lime. The Mahal has a high pedestal but it is now in dilapidations. The paintings in the Mahal were once painted of gold and so the name Sunheri Mahal.

The Sunheri Mahal finishes the Mughal grandness with its remnants of glory that rejects to fade.

Indians are charged Rs 10 and foreigners Rs 100 as entrance fee and the timings are from 8 am - 6 pm.

Damri Mahal

Location

The Revenue Office building was known as the Damri Mahal. It was built after the completion of the ‘Barra Darri’. The building was built by imposing a donation of a damri which is equivalent to a quarter of a dub. The contribution was collected from all the labourers employed.

The front of the building has an arcaded verandah. This verandah just in front like a portico. The portico consists of 5 scalloped arches.

Behind the verandah there are 10 rooms of varying sizes. They are arranged in a line. There are 7 chambers and antechambers to the right. The roof is arched.

Viceregal Lodge

Location

They are responsible for the uproar of coffee culture in India, even though the name ‘Barista' means a bartender. Rang Mahal

Location

One of the largest monuments, Rang Mahal is located in Surara Mohalla. The foundation of Rang Mahal was laid by Raja Umed Sing (1748-1764). The super structure of Rang Mahal, which is in brick, belongs to a later date with its southern portion built around 1860 by Raj Sri Singh. The architecture of Rang Mahal is an amalgam of Mughal and British styles. This palace was the residence for a branch of the ruling family. Its fort like looks justifies its use as royal granary and treasury, which is on its western side.

Rajbari

Location

With a beautiful Durga temple in the courtyard. Every year, the famous Jhulan Mela is celebrated around the Rajbari in the July / August months and Baro Dol (as it is held 12 days after Dol Purnima) in March / April.

Victoria Memorial

Location

An everlasting impression one carries from Kolkata is the shining white Victoria memorial surrounded by lush greenery and wide roads. Conceptualised and created by Sir William Emerson – President, British institute of Architects in 1921 the Victoria Memorial provides an idea of how the riches plundered from India were splurged on pleasing the Royal family. Town Hall

Location

Every city has a central location which is a mute spectator to its growth and prosperity. The Town Hall of Kolkata has been a vibrant participant in all major activities of the city since last two centuries. Constructed in 1813 using wood and bricks, the Town Hall stands in the illustrious company of the Assembly House. The 25 feet high ground floor has an intricate network of numerous small rooms and a central marble hall.

Jorasanko Thakur Bari

Location

Bengal is the land of thinkers, philosophers and artists. One of the all time great poet, author and thinker Rabindranath Tagore hailed from the lands of Bengal and the area where he and his family resided in their ancestral house is known as the Jorasanko Thakurbari or House of the Thakur/ Tagore. Built in the 18th century by Prince Dwarkanath Tagore, the grandfather of Rabindranath Tagore the palace has now been converted into a mini museum cum exhibit hall.
