Sultan Battery

Location

This is a watchtower supposed to be built by Tipu Sultan to watch the entry of warships into the Gurpur River. It has a marvelous construction and though it was meant to be a simple watchtower, it gives the feeling to the onlookers of a minuscule fortress with its many apertures for rising cannons all around.

The battery, located in Boloor, was erected in black stones looking like a miniature fortress. This tower with no maintenance at all could not survive extreme weather conditions and is in ruins presently. The remaining part is known as Tipu’s well.

Kolar Gold Fields

Location

Kolar Gold Fields: KGF is located 27 Kms away from Kolar. The K.G.F. city is entirely a creation of the Gold mining industry. The Champion mine is the second deepest mine in the world. BEML, recently established a large scale industry for the manufacture of Earth moving Equipments and Crawler tractors.

Allahabad Planetarium

Location

Built in 1979, Allahabad Planetarium was built to promote scientific thinking. The planetarium is located beside Anandh Bawan. There are five shows on any day. Each show is a celestial journey. Each show features interesting and intriguing aspects related to space and astronomy.

There is a moon model on display. Visitors can find their weights on Moon and Jupiter, too. The planetarium is also called Jawahar Planetarium.

Statue of Ugra Narsimha

Location

Statue of Ugra Narsimha: Narasimha in its terrifying form, the statue of Ugra Narasimha, is a mammoth statue of 6.7 meter height located in the south region of the temple complex of Hemkuta group which contains the Virupaksha Temple. Narasimha, being half-man and half-lion, is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. This gigantic statue is worth seeing.

Bahubali Statue

Location

Bahubali Statue: The Bahubali statue is marvelously situated in near to the renowned Manjunath Temple of Dharamasthala. Bahubali Temple encloses the 39 ft monolithic statue of Lord Bahubali, which is carved out of single stone and placed on a platform of 13 ft height. The works on statue started on 1967 and the installation was complete in 1975. It is placed on a hillock known as Rathnagiri Betta.

Lighthouse

Location

After walking around and enjoying the vast beauty of the island, look around the horizons of nature off the coast of Karwar, you can see some more islands. One is Oyster-rock, as name suggests, with plenty of Oysters around. One can get down the Oyster rock to have the grand feast for the eyes; a close look at one of the oldest and cutest lighthouses, a grand sight built during the British Raj. This is marvelous and awesome.

Karnataka Power Corporation Ltd (KPCL)

Location

Karnataka Power Corporation Ltd (KPCL) operates a power station below Syke's point. Entry to this spot as well as taking photographs is strictly prohibited. Permission's for Syke's point can be obtained from KPCL security office at Ambikanagar. The dare devils can trek 12 Kms through lush forests from Kulgi.

Syke's point is near Nagajihari power station which is about 3 Kms from Ambikanagar.

Syntheri Rock

Location

Syntheri Rock is located 32 Kms from Kali Wilderness camp. It is a 300ft tall monolith of granite located deep inside the thick Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary. With the Kaneri River gushing ferociously by its side, the Syntheri Rock is a spectacular sight. You can see hollow places on the rock which are the effects of erosion here.

In the innumerable nooks and crannies thousands of pigeons have made their homes. You can also see bee hives hanging dangerously on these rocks. A thrilling jeep ride in the deep forest followed by a walk will get you to this beautiful place.
