According to legends, Pandusthal was the battle ground where 'Kauravas' and 'Pandavas' had fought. There exists a natural ground half a km in breadth. The Himalaya is so near that one can get an excellent view of the ranges. To reach Pandusthal, a bus service is available from Gadud to Jakheda. From Jakheda it is 20 km trek through the mountains.
It is situated at a distance of 30 kms from Bageshwer town. One can have a panaromic view of the snow capped Himalayan range from here. Because of it's high altitude the view is breath taking.
Gurso Bugyal : It is just three kilometres from Auli. Gurso is a huge beautiful meadow spread out and blessed with picture like beauty by nature. The place has mixed forest type, oak and conifer, and is 3056 metres above the sea level. One of the best way to come here is via ropeway. It is just 1.5 kilometres from the last tower of ropeway. Come here enjoying the breathtaking beauty of the snowfields lined with forests of oak and conifer.
Twelve kilometres from Gurso, is another beautiful meadow, Kwani bugyal. The place is at a height of 3350 meters and is quite popular with trekkers. The best time to be here is in June and September. Nanda Devi hotel in Joshimath organises camps here with all the facilities of cooks, guides, camping equipment here. In summers, it is like one big camp going on here as trekkers from all over camp here.
47 kms from Almora this is an ancient Shiva temple with natural caves. 2116 mts above sea level this place is a favourite with nature lovers.
Situated at a distance of 20 kilometers from Almora is Lakhudiyar. Lakhudiyar literally means one lakh caves. It is one of the most important pre-historic sites in the hills. Some of the numerous caves in this region have paintings of pre-historic man on their walls.
