Katta Pathar

Location

One of the prettiest villages in Kalsi is Katta Pathar, which obtained its strange name from an iron mine, which is now in an extinct state. Tranquil trails and natural colour of a rusty village life is the predominant feature of this typical hamlet. One can stroll down the promenade while enjoying the beauty of a splendid landscape.

Location

It is 56 kms from Champawat and is famous for the Swami Vivekanand Ashram on the banks of the beautiful Shyamlatal lake. The blue waters of the lake sprawl over an area of 1.5 sq. kms There are also some ruins dating back to early Chand rulers and some of them are even associated with the legendary Pandavas. The Jhula fair held here is also very popular.

New Tehri

The newly established township is the district headquater of Tehri Garhwal. It is situated at an elevation between 1550 to 1950 m above sea level. A modern and well planned town, only 11 km from Chamba & 24 km from Old Tehri, it overlooks a massive artificial lake and a Dam. It will soon become an important centre of attraction on the completion of the dam.
The New Tehri town is credited with being the first planned hill town in India. It was established to rehabilitate the villages that were submerged due to the construction of Tehri Dam.

Lakhamandal

Location

Past Kempty falls, 75 kms on the Mussoorie-Yamnotri road lies Lakhamandal, having a historical as well as mythological significance. It figures prominently in the annals of Mahabharata. Legend has it that the Kaurvas made a shelter house and conspired to burn the Pandavas alive here. Lakhmandal is situated on the bank of Yamuna at a distance of 35 kms. From Chakrata and 128 kms. from Dehra Dun. To the antiquarian it provides considerable material of interest. It contains temples dedicated to Diva, The five pandava brothers, Parasuram and Kedar.
