Sriniketan 3 km from Shantiniketan furthers Tagore’s vision of rural development. Sriniketan focuses on agriculture, adult education, village welfare, cottage industries and handicrafts. Kankalitala just 7 kms away from Shantiniketan is revered as a sacred place where according to legend a part of Mata Sati''s body fell.

Sriniketan, established in the recent past in 1992, is a centre devoted for rural reconstruction and has a department where India’s socio-economic issues are studied. Focus of this centre is on adult education, agriculture, cottage industries, welfare of villages and handicrafts. The center sells many items made in traditional way, such as pottery, batik on leather, cloth and silk, tribal handicrafts and weaving materials.

One of the attractions here is an agricultural college offering courses on agricultural subjects. The Uttarayan Gardens, Kala Bhavana, the Deer Park and Rabindra Bhavana, are other attractions nearby.
