From the epic ages onwards, holy teerthams of Tirumala are famous for their sacredness and divinity. Almost all the sacred water bodes hold fantastic legends and stories of salvation. In fact these legends are the driving force that led lacks of pilgrims to this temple town each day.
Another important teertham, which holds the holy myths of Lord Vishnu is Kumara Teertham. It is believed that Kumara Teertham is the place where Lord Vishnu took his penance after killing Tarakasura.
Tirumala is encircled by a number of sacred water bodies and one of the pretty ponds is the Japali theertham. It is quite amazing that even though very beautiful, Japali Teertham is not so crowded like the other holy ponds. A superb location, where the deep woods and a lovely shrine in the name of Hanuman awaits you with awesome vistas. Every important and auspicious festival in the teertham will be held during the time of Kumaradhara Magha Pournami, Tumbhuru Phalguna Pournami, Ramakrishna Pushya Pournami, and Chakra Karthika Masa - Ksheerabdhi Dwadasi.
Another lovely pond that lies near to Sila thoranam, the Chakra theertham houses a temple with Swayambu lingam. Like all other sacred water bodies in Tirupati, this theertham also holds fabulous legends.
Akasaganga Theertham in Tirupati holds fabulous legends about its origin. One of the waterfalls found in the near surroundings of the main temple, this sacred torrent gains predominance over the others since all the rituals are conducted with the holy waters of this theertha. It situates just five kilometers away from the main temple and traditionally the Tirumala Nambi family is allowed to take water from the waterfall to the temple.
According to Upa Skanda Purana, Uma maheswaram is the Northern entrance of Srisailam. You have to travel 12 k.m off the highway to reach this place. The forest around this has a lot of Natural beauty. A temple of Lord Shiva is present here. Umamaheswaram is a tourist attraction.
It comes 60 k.m before Srisailam. You have to take diversion from the highway and travel 7 k.m from Vativellu palli village in a muddy road. It is a Natural water-falls in the deep forest. A nice place to visit.
Maisigandi is a small village in the Srisailam highway. The temple of Maisamma (Local name for Godess Mahakali) comes before Maisigandi village. It is a must see temple, resembles the cultural and mythological feelings of local people. The idol of Maisamma is very big in size.
The River Krishna in Srisailam is called Patala Ganga. Pilgrims will take holy bath in it.
Spiritually, the most important place near Srisailam. There is a saying telling the importance of it. "Srisaila Sikharam drishtvaa Punarjanma na vidyatee", which means that one can attain Mukti by just seeing this Mountain peak.
