Sri Govindarajaswami Temple

Location

One of the important and biggest shrines in Tirupati, Givindarajaswami temple boasts of the vaishnavite traditions of temple architecture. Earlier records of this temple dates back to the year 1235 AD and it is believed that Ramanuja laid its foundation stone. After the imposing Gopuram, there are two shrines with an outer wall encircling the two. Out of the two the southern most shrine is dedicated to Parthasarathy and the other one in the north is in the name of Govindaraja.

Sri Chennakesavaswami Temple

Location

A temple that boast of a rich tradition and ethnicity, Sri Chennakesavaswami temple dates back to 1000 years ago. This temple lays in a place, which is very revered as the birthplace of Sri Annamacharya, the Sankeertana Acharyulu. According to legend, the temple was constructed and administered by the Matti Rajas. Temple premises hold numerous sub temples like Sri Gopalaswami Sameta Chakrathalwar temple, Chennakesavaswami Sameta temple, Sri Kamaksh and Sri Siddeswaraswami temple

Sri Bedi Anjaneyaswami Temple

Location

A temple, which reminiscent the childhood days of Hanuman, the temple of Sri Anjaneyaswamyis prettily situated on the banks of Pushkarini. Its faces the Mahadwaram of Sri Venkateswara shrine. It is said that the temple was constructed in the period of Mahant. This legendary holy shrine was built as per the Vishnavite tradition expressing the idol hands joining the model of postulation.

Sri Annapurna Sameta Kasi Visweswaraswami Temple

Location

On the majestic banks of Kusasthali river is situated a marvelous temple dedicated to numerous goddess along with Lord Vishnu. This temple is at Bugga Agraharam almost 56 kilometers away from Tirupati. Temple premises holds Sri Kasi Visweswara Swami, Sri Annapurna Ammavaru, Sri Kamakshi Ammavaru, Sri Devi Bhudevi Sameta and Sri Prayaga Madhava Swami as the chief deities.

Sesha Teertham

Location

Behind this sacred teertham there lies a fabulous legend. Once lord Vishnu felt very thirsty and asked Garuda to fetch water for quenching his thirst. When Garuda took too much time, lord asked Adishesha to strike a torrent with his tail. Adishesha did exactly the same and hence this theertham is known by his name.

Sanaka Sanandana Teertham

Location

A lovely waterfall, which is closely associated with two sages by the same name as that of the teertham,Sanaka Sanandana Teetham boast of a fantastic story. Once Sanaka and Sadanada went to Vaikuntham to have the darshan of Vishnu. But Jaya and Vijaya, who were the guards of vaikuntha, did not permit them. Being ashamed, the sages cursed the guards and on account of that the guards took their birth as Danavas. The sages returned to earth after three rebirths the guards have regained their original form.

Ramakrishna Teertham

Location

Situated just six miles north to the Venkateswara temple is Ramakrishna Teertham. It holds another fantastic myth about lord Srinivasa. It says that a person by name Krishna dug this pool and after some days of its excavation a rishi came there and started to meditate in the pool. His meditation went for quite a long time so that an anthill had grown around him. In order to test his concentration, Indra sent down hammering rainstorm with bright lightning and heavy thunders. But it failed to dislodge the man in the pool. Ramakrishna never dislodge.

Pasupu Teertham

Location

The temple city of Tirumala is generously blessed with the benevolence of Lord Vishnu, in the form of glorious temples and holy ponds. Encircled by sanctified water bodies, which are popularly called punya teerthams, reminds the devotee of the celestial water bodies in heaven. Each of these teerthams have it’s own significance that closely connected with Lord Venkateswara.

Papavinasam Teertham

Location

Situated just two miles away from Tirumala, Papavinasam is one of the prettiest and important waterfalls in the temple city. As the name denotes, Papavinasam is the place where all the devotees frequents with the belief that a holy dip would redeem them from their sins. Pilgrims can avail the dressing rooms as there is a separate room built for both men and women.
