Dargah of Hazrat Wajihuddin

Location

The Dargah of Hazrat Wajihuddin is one of the earliest and most famous in Chanderi. Hazrat Wajihuddin reached Chanderi in the year 1395 A.D. He was born in 1260 at Kaal Kahar where he spent his childhood. As a young man Hazrat Wajihuddin with his parent's permission moved to Delhi where he served under the Sufi Saint Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya as a disciple. Hazrat Wajihuddin spent most of his time in meditation in a small hut in Gyas Pur Delhi.

He was appointed by Sultan Allauddin Khilji to look look after the poor and needy of Chanderi. In his appointment he so spread the word of Allah on unity, equality, brotherhood, and harmony, that he gained 1000s of disciples in Chanderi and also other towns.

Jama Masjid

Location

Jama Masjid in Burhanpur is one of the major mosques built in the area during the Faroqui rule. The initial Jama Masjid was built to the north of the city. It is later during 1590 that the present Jama Masjid was constructed in the hart of Burhanpur and ever since it has been one of the major historical and tourist attraction in Bhopal.

Taj-ul-Masjid

Location

One of the largest and most elegant Muslim mosques, Taj-ul-Masjid is the most imposing structure in Bhopal. The literal meaning of the term Taj-ul-Masjid is ‘The Crown of Mosques’, and the building really presents a magnificent spectacle and is worthy for a watch. It’s pink façade and the huge white-domed minarets provide it a miraculous charm.

The mosque also has so many other spectacular features, which adds its natural charm. Among them the three huge bulbous domes, an impressive main hallway with attractive pillars, marble flooring and a spacious courtyard are very conspicuous. The mosque is also functioned as a madarsa, an Islamic religious school during daytime.

Moti Masjid

Location

Moti Masjid, a lovely shrine in Bhopal is a significant landmark in the history of muslim women in India. This marvelous shrine was constructed by the progressive muslim ruler Sikander Begum in the year 1860. The architectural design of the Moti Masjid has a close similitude to the famous Jama Masjid in Delhi.

This pretty mosque is comparatively smaller in size, but grabs thousands of tourists with its architectural marvel. Its dark red towers and golden spikes are really fantastic. The façade of the mosque is of glittering white marble, which provides an ethereal look. The Moti Masjid is also called as Pearl Mosque because of this sparkling white fascia.

Lakshmi Narayan Temple (Birla Mandir)

Location

Dedicated to goddess Lakshmi, Birla Mandir is situated atop the Arera Hills, the highest point in Bhopal District. Placed in a hilly terrain, this temple commands a panoramic view of the picture perfect city. Apart from Lakshmi and her husband Vishnu, this temple also houses a beautiful shrine of Lord Shiva, with his wife Parvathi. The serene atmosphere of this magnificient shrine gives spiritual solace to the devotees.

Jama Masjid

Location

A small, beautiful mosque constructed during the period of Qudisiya Begum, Jama Masjid in Bhopal is an impressive structure. A well preserved monument, Jama Masjid is frequented by large number of people through out the year. Most fabulous feature of this pretty shrine is the two large towers that can be seen from a considerable distance.

Jain Temple

Location

The Jain Temple is famous for the magnificent 20 feet high statue of Mahavira and two statues of Parsvanath. There are three images of tirthankaras as well inside the temple. The temple is situated close to Bhojeshwar temple. The style and architecture of both the temples is quite similar which points out that both the temples were built almost in the same period.

Bhojeshwar Temple

Location

This is the most important places in Bhojpur. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and beckons devotees from all parts of India. The temple was built sometime around 11th century. The structure towers to a height of 66 feet. The dome is incomplete; still the beauty of it is captivating. The dome is supported by four richly carved pillars. The architecture of the temple fascinates not only tourists but archeologists as well. The temple is known as Somnath in the eastern part of India.
