One of the ancient temples that boast of great traditional value Narmada Udgam presents a complex of small shrines in an enclosed space, in which a sacred kund is its spotlight. Devotees perform rituals and prayers here Flanked with so many shrines this kund happens to be a hub of devotees who under took the mush coveted Narmada Parikrama. Main shrines in the premises are dedicated to Narmada devi, Surya, Shiva Gorakhnath and Vishnu.
At the place of origin of Narmada River there is an open pool known as Narmadakund. The local people, the Panikas, consider Kabir Chabutara as one of the holiest places of the Kabirpanthis because Sant Kabir spent many years here in meditation.
A hot spring in a thick forest. Dhuni Pani is one of the important tourist destinations in Amarkantak. Amarkantak is situated at the meeting point of Vindhya and Satpura. The place is regarded as one of the religious places as the place bears various mythological aspects. Narmada is regarded as the blessed river and carries lots of importance in respect of Hindu mythology.
The ancient temples of Kalachuri period are situated in the south of Narmadakund just behind it. These were built by Kalachuri Maharaja Karnadeva (1042-1072 AD). The Machhendranath and Pataleshwar temples are excellent examples of architecture. There is also Keshav Narayan temple built by the Bhonsle ruler of Nagpur in the 18th century.
Monastery at Lava is also known as Kagyu Thekchen Ling Monastery and Ratnarishi Bihar Buddhist Gumpa. It is one of the prime sightseeing spot of Lava. Located on a hill, overlooking the snow-capped mountain range to the north, the Monastery is surrounded by dense forests and remains enveloped in mists for most of the year. This large and colourful monastery was established by Karma Lodro Chokyi Senge, the third Kongtrul Rimpoche.
There is also an old Shiva temple in Pakur, which comes under Bhutuk Pandit. It is considered the oldest temple of this city.
