Akshayabat

Location

Though not exactly in Gaya, Akhsayabat is situated at Bodh Gaya which is 12 kilometers away from Gaya. The Akshayabat tree is the same tree under which Gautam Sidhartha meditated in search of eternal truth. Akshayabat is situated inside the temple complex and is a major tourist attraction.

Vishnupada Temple

Location

Vishnupada Temple is the main Hindu temple in Gaya and located on the banks of the Phalgu river. The temple was renovated in the year 1787 by Maharani Ahalya Bai Queen of Indore. Vishnupada Temple has a 30 mtr high tower. Here devotees worship the lotus footprint of Lord Vishnu and perform the sraddha ceremony to liberate their ancestors. Close to Vishnupada temple there are other shrines the presiding deities are Adi Gadadhar, Saksi Gopala and Krishan Dwarka.

Vishnupad Temple is sacred among Hindus and is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The city has developed around the temple. According to believers and religious texts, the footprints inside the temple are those of Lord Vishnu. The temple is built in Shikhara style and was reconstructed in the year 1787, by Ahilya Bai Holkar of Indore.

Parasnath hill

Location

Parasnath hill is a pilgrim destination located in Gaya. Jain religious scriptures reveal that out of 24 Jain Tirthankars, 22 attained salvation at this place and for this simple reason the place is considered the most sacred for Jain followers. Jain devotees flock in large number every year to Parasnath hill.

Bitho Sharif

Location

Situated on Gaya-Patna route, is one of the notable pilgrimage place. The great Sufi saint of Chishtia-Ashrafi order Hazrat Makhdoom Syed Shah Durwesh Ashraf settled here in around Ninth Century Hijri and established Khanqah-e-Ashrafia. A large number of Muslims and people from other faith, from all over the Globe visit the Dargah of this great Sufi Saint. Urs of Hazrat Makhdoom Durwesh Ashraf is celebrated every year from 10th-12th of Islamic month of Shabaan.Prof.

Surya Kund

Location

Surya Kund is west of the Vishnu Temple. Here the festival of Sun God is celebrated in the Hindu months of 'Chaitya' (March- April) and 'Kartikya' (September - October). A fair is also organized on these occasions at the Surya Kund.

Pretshila Hill

Location

Pretshila hill is just 3 kms away from the Ramshila hill. Below the Pretshila hill is the Brahma Kund, where devotees take bath and then proceed for Pind Dan. This ritual is performed for peace of the departed soul of the ancestor. At Pretshila hill there is a temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu which is popular among the tourist to its unique architecture and marvellous sculptures.
